Recology San Francisco: Walk-In Apartment Recycling Collection!

Published 2022-08-24
Huge thank you to the awesome driver Cruz for allowing me to grab some video and showing me all of his route info so I could keep up! Plus, it's not everyday you walk up to a driver who says they are already subscribed to and know of your Youtube channel haha. Hope you found this video!

During the week that my normal recycling driver was on vacation, my street got picked up by a random substitute driver about 5 hours later than normal, and that guy continued on to grab the surrounding streets, but what he didn't collect was 1 block of residential and then all of the various walk in stops in the area. So, around 1:00pm on a Friday, this guy showed up to finish the route! Like I mentioned, the first thing this driver asked me when I was hoping to film was "What's your channel name?" When I replied with "Recology Spencer" he said "Oh yeah, I already follow you and a bunch of other guys, and have seen other drivers on there." Honestly I thought that was so cool lol. So, with an obvious yes to follow around for a bit and record, he finished up a bit of houses, and then moved on to around a dozen walk-in stops on multiple streets. Some apartments require keys to access the bins, while others have a keypad door, and some just put them out partially. Either way, this is part of the regular route, and some of these get twice-weekly collection due to the volume. Filming a full video of this type of collection unique to the city was definitely high on my list, so I was happy to make that happen this day! Again, thanks so much to Cruz for allowing me to grab some cool shots, and for telling me exactly where he was going next - which made this video possible. With that, Enjoy the video!

Filmed on August 12, 2022 in the Inner Sunset of San Francisco w/ an iPhone 12

Have a Great Day! :D

  • Wow that San Franciscian recycle pick up guy really walks alot to get those recycle bins to his truck, then put the empty bins back in their proper place. In Boston you have to put your garbage bins curbside, or they won't pick them up. And after emptied the recycle truck just puts them back near the curb. The driver rarely ever gets out of his truck
  • Ahh yes, I remember seeing them in Labries a couple years ago doing this exact same area. Looks like it's time to head back over there and see what I can catch.

That’s how it is in Mountain View when I’m doing recycling in a rear load split hopper. Gotta do a lot of walking to get the toters from most apartments 🥵 Great cardio tho 😁👍🏽
  • This is neat! Really enjoyed watching this guy collecting apartment cans, and the truck itself looks pretty awesome. Cool that this guy have seen your videos, and is subscribed to you, you don't see that often. Great work as always!
  • Sorry for the late comment, but dang, this is a cool route! Apartments are epic in sf, collection wize lol
