I don't know why I agreed to this... Today we're driving the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe 1400km - from Melbourne to Canberra and back - to see JUST HOW GOOD the new 7-seat SUV from Hyundai is.

Was this a terrible mistake or a great idea? Let's talk about that!

Please note: ‘Highway Driving Assist’ (HDA) and Nappa Leather Seats aren’t available on all variants, including the base model.

We give every car "the sauce", test their 0-100km/h, and see whether or not they are worth purchasing and spending your hard-earned cash on.

From time to time, we'll also buy a weird and wacky car and take you on the journey with me! We release videos every Sunday 5pm AEST / AEDT with the latest new car reviews!

Your feedback is important, so if you want to see us do something new or something you would like me to change let me know! Got a question for me? Leave it in the comments! I try and respond to them al

This is the new carsauce format... travel vlog + daddy jacob + car review in disguise
  • I regularly drive long distances like Brisbane to Townsville or Charters Towers or Sydney (not so far) straight through. By the way .. I am 63 so I am surprised a young bloke like yourself does not find it easier. Its not difficult to do when you develop a rhythm to your driving. Biggest fatigue bringer is noise so I tend to keep stereos off or very low, and use noise cancelling ear phones just for that. No piped audio. Regular stops for coffee and plenty of water. Good food rather than snacks to help stay away from the sugar hit and subsequent crash after. I like the headlights on the Santa Fe. They help because I also like to do as much of my trips at night as I can. Anyway .. interesting to see how the car coped with the run. Not sure its my cup of tea though.

Matty…great review of the Hyundai SantaFe. Amazing car, looks like a level up from the previous model. Btw while you were about to enjoy the Pie, did you end up sharing it with the alone man starring the lake with you?

Love the cargo pants. All the pockets. All the utility!
  • @SonicMrSumo
great filming location to start the vid...a couple of discarded mattresses in the background...a noisy train...excellent!

Melb to CBR is not that bad. Super boring drive. The worse is driving in Victoria... speed limit
  • I drove two weeks ago a 2013 Toyota Camry hybrid from Brisbane to Sydney did 940 km used 55 lt in total
  • @CarSauce How is the passing power on the Hwy? I will be upgrading my Hyundia i30 SR (1.6 turbo) soon. I travel from Brisbane to Hervey Bay (3.5 hours one way) regularly. On that trip there are a lot of trucks which the i30 blasts by easily, it can jump from 100km/h to 130km/h in an instant in the overtaking lane. The Santa Fe Hybrid has the same engine albeit an electric motor to assist but a LOT heavier vehicle, did you feel the car struggle to pass slow moving trucks easily?

I think your lucky to get out of that suburb without daddy Jacobs guns, looked dodgy, lucky you wasn't mugged, the car looks amazing and headlights seem really good. Cause i dont think car makers seem to care about headlights enough.

I’m so glad to see the spare tire, because that means there’s hardware out there to adapt the North American EV models to do that. Otherwise you just have a mobility kit.

Early mins of the vid - sleepy sleepy daddy!

Ideally car sauce can do an un bias comparison between this car and the Tank 500 that would be great. Allot of similarities between both cars features and the fact both are hybrid.

This was an extremely useful video - thanks for posting. I'm about to pull the trigger on an order for a Calligraphy trim powder blue hybrid - I do a lot of long distance driving, including Italy to/from UK a few times a year, at a distance of around 1400km each way, which I try to do in 16-18 hours. It can be a bit insane to do, but having a comfortable car in which to do it, with a good sound system, should make all the difference. I hope I can live with the safety features' bings and bongs, but like you said, for NCAP 5 these are a requirement, so other manufacturers will also have similar. The question is, how many of these features can be turned off to avoid annoyance?
  • You found one of the grungiest back end out industrial block backing onto train line in Melbourne lol
  • @phunk8607
that petrol station looks like in Braddon Lonsdale st?...
  • @icelax97
Does that speedometer have a little dot showing the speed limit?? Nice little feature
