  • I have camped with several others with this side opening "clamshell" design... 2 different brands than this one, but if it rained hard, they booth pooled up and leaked...sometimes along the frame where the rainfly ends up touching the fabric all night and then coming through. Staying dry is very important , and I sacrifice the space and have a wedge tent... but I have been in hail storms with 50 mph winds, rain for three days... and everything stayed dry (nickle sized hail that covered the ground 3 inches deep sounded like a gravel truck was dumping on the tent). It happens to be a roofnest as well... but I've had it in very bad weather and it has no leaks. Its the falcon 2. I also have an old smittybuilt on a trailer I own and it has a frame that is more like an accordian set up... it only let small amounts of water in after a couple days of heavy rain, but the design had a peak at the top and everything flowed off... even it it seemed cheaper fabric...water had a hard time standing anywhere on it. I wonder if this design just allows for water to pool up and leak.

When a company doesn't proactively work with a popular social media influencer after one of their products fails spectacularly on-camera, that says everything I need to know about that company. If they ignore someone with 70,000+ followers in a tight-knit community on YouTube, you know they won't be there for J. Random Customer when his tent fails.

Well, after your video about leaks, I set up my Condor with the one piece shell. It’s about 3 years old and I haven’t used it yet. Been building my rig. Anyway, it’s been out in the rain for a few days. Luckily no leaks as for now. Going to seem seal all seems before my 2 month trip to be safe. 22:15 Also my model has the same issue with the ability to reach the switch for LED light if your sleeping with you head at the hard shell side. I don’t have to pockets like yours, but I would just move it to the clear pouch connected to a small usb battery pack. Thanks for the update! Good luck

Curious if you'd have all the same issues on the new version with their improvements. I am still excited to get our Condor 2 XL this weekend and it'll be fun figuring it all out. I'll look out for some of the stuff you pointed out on your version and see if these issues persist on the 2.

The water pooling is likely because you aren't using the poles on the side by your cab, thus it isn't completely taunt. As far as water getting inside the cover sides, I'd guess the top panel has a gap in the seal between it and the sides.

Casey, thank you for the update on the tent. It’s always very informative what you share. Sorry you’re having issues that you are with it especially the water that’s unresolved problem to drain. Hopefully you figure that out in the future I’m not set on the rooftop tenant at this point I get the attraction and the benefits, at this point, I’m still going to stay with my tent. I’m sure things will always get developed. That might change my mind.
  • Appreciate your using normal measurements. Really helped me understand the size. I think this was a good review. Almost 75k subs. It’s insane. You have come a long way.
  • Casey I have the same issue with water pooling on the rain fly. I tracked it down to a bad seam seal on a small section of the clear window of the fly. Roofnest sent me a patch kit and so far, so good.
  • @LetsGetLost.
I picked up that exact tent about a month ago, thanks for the insight on things I will now be on the lookout for 👍🏻
  • @jfaber99
Same tent and had it for almost two years. For the first year it lived on the back of the truck. I totally agree with the water down the back and the screens on the wrong side. Luckily I’m not having any issues so far. My last trip was in a week of rain in the Smokies. Also my front door may be different. I have a mini awning that doesn’t have any zippers for use when the rain fly is removed. Then my regular front door zips all the way around and my screen zips all the way around. I only wish it had the duct ports for my Wave 2.

Great review Casey. I’m really liking our wedge tent. Also, nice hat!
  • @WarthogOverland
Awesome honest review, thx Casey 🙏 love the look and functionality of that RTT, hate the price. My Michigan weather is concerning. Thanks again for pointing out all the little things, both my wife and I had deer in the headlights look when you showed the bug entrance at the hinges.
  • @donmontalvo1
iKamper’s lack of support was off putting enough to swear never to buy a RTT again. A quality tent is a small fraction of the price and from my experience has been problem free.
  • Put a high spot in the middle of a mild slope….just a bad design flaw in that style of side clams. Really noticeable on a lot of those,as soon as you open them . Not sure a couple degrees is going to solve that issue.A short arm running from the hard shell to that main cross bar would at least help divert the water to the sides, instead of collecting it, the way the entrance fly does. Good thing it doesn’t rain that often in the greater Vancouver area ;)
  • @johnanthony6141
I bought a James Baroud Evasion M. I don’t have the issues you have and it’s seems much more simpler. Not as roomy and you definitely can’t stand up. I also have not had as much rain as you since I live in Colorado. The water would make me insane. Ha. You’re my favorite YouTuber Thanks.
  • @DirtGuppie
I have no complaints with mine other than the screen/door thing that you mentioned. Have you talked to Roofnest about the water intrusion?
