Discovering an Oriole Nest During a Picnic at Pikes Peak (360 Panorama, 2024)

This is birding the hard way!

We just finished a hike at Pikes Peak State Park in Iowa. While consuming a leisurely picnic lunch we watched a pair of Baltimore Orioles come and go from a small clump of leaves. Orioles are nest weavers who hang their purse-like nests from tree branches. I've never spotted a nest in over 40 years of birding! Now I know why. Even when we stood feet away from the nest we had a hard time seeing it!

Recorded with a Theta S camera and rendered on an iPhone.
