James Vi and I was King of Scotland and England (1567-1625). In this video I transform his many portraits to see how he looked in real life using my photoshop skills and artistic interpretations. He is known for producing the first Anglo-Scottish union and surviving the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
He was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots and later on inherited the English crown from Queen Elizabeth I after she died with no heirs.

  • @NS-vw8pm
Holy moly, that picture of Elizabeth was something out of “It”!
  • James VI/I is one of my favorite monarchs in the history of the British Isles. I love his curiosity and his hands-on involvement in running the country. Great video!
  • I have read some on James I. The most significant for me was his daughter Elizabeth marrying into the Bohemian royals and eventually her descendants becoming the Hanovarian royal line of England, starting with George I. I find the European royal lines fascinating because they are related in one way or another. My former brother-in-law very much resembled the one portrait of James with the large eyes and the rounded tip of the nose. It was uncanny when I first met him when he was in his middle 40's. His is name is also James. I was told that , in his younger years, he could charm the birds out of the trees too. By the time that I met him, he had lost that ability.

We all need to remember too that those portraits were painted later in his life. It’s kind of like if there were decent portrait artists (sorry! You did the best you could, artists!) when Henry VIII were around when Henry VIII was just 18, when he became king, we wouldn’t always see him as this bloated old man. I love these. You do bring them to life as much as you can with what you have to work with, even those old drawings where cat have faces drawings lol, and it gives me at least, a new artist/visionary look to them. I read a lot of history, and it’s like when you read a biography and you flip to the photo section, you want to see. You do a great job!
  • Another great video! I always love when you make these! I know it would be hard since we have little to no information on his family but I would absolutely adore to see a video from you on Tarrare, it'd be nice to be able to put a face to the man, yknow?
  • A astounding philosopher and stable monarch. Nice video by the way.
  • Great king and great video and can you do a video on Stuarts
  • Would you please do a video on the 4th Earl of Bothwell, James Hepburn?
  • He looks like a mix of both his mother and grandfather (James V).
  • Thank you. 👍 Got a video on one of the Roman emperors in my recommendations and wondered if, by chance, you had something similar in regard to King James (have been studying his character & reign over the past few years), and it actually turned out to be the most recent video of yours – what a stroke of luck!
  • @keithss67
They actually said that about his lover the Duke of buckingham, not about him. Queen Elizabeth the 1st once said about him “imagine that thing is actually the king of Scotland” not really much of a recommendation.
  • How about a video of Peter the Great of Russia, who westernized that nation?
  • Do you take requests? I would love to see Major John Pelham of the American Civil War brought to life through your artistry. Than you!
  • The handsomest man in England ?!? Jeez! What did the others look like ? A collection of Gargoyles..?
