id say using command blocks for jokes occasionally would be fine in the series(making it rarer would also prevent oversaturation of command block based jokes)

How purple thinks people will respond to him using command blocks: Can't believe purple used a command block in a Redstone video... unsubscribe. How people will actually respond: Purple could totally make a "your dumb command block ideas" video, alongside the "your dumb Redstone ideas" videos.
  • If it's useful, it's cheating. If it's a really dumb idea, it's a pro gamer move.

Build a redstone build that will subtly annoy craftymasterman as much as possible

So long as you're doing something creative, crazy, and/or hilarious with the command blocks then I'm here for it. Back in the day, Sethbling used command blocks all the time in his redstone videos and they were awesome. Nobody was complaining that he was faking anything. Not every redstone YouTuber needs to be like MumboJumbo...

I think you should be able to use command blocks for the dumb redstone ideas ONLY

I make data packs (which are essentially command blocks accessed in a different way), and I feel that redstone and commands are not really comparable. Neither is better than the other, it's just that redstone is good for some things and commands are good for other things. Some people have the idea that commands are "better" than redstone because they're more capable, and in some ways that's true, but the constraints of redstone are what make it so special.

Just put ‘ dumb redstone ideas (ft. Command blocks ‘

I've seen a "simple sand farm" tutorial with a repeating command block setblocking sand into the air over a hopper. Great.

Hear me out: in Creative Mode, there’s no such thing as cheating. Its purpose is to remove limitations.

My personal opinion is basically that redstone stuff and command block stuff are two different kinds of content, and as long as it's clear which kind it is, I'm fine with plenty of silly command block content. To try and put it more solidly, as long as "redstone" isn't in the title, (Ex: I make your silly ideas in Minecraft come to life), and a reasonable person wouldn't believe it's possible in survival early on, I feel you are completely in the green. In my opinion, the easiest way to fulfill the reasonable person part is just having something that resizes blocks in the first idea, but there are probably many more ways to do so I won't even attempt to list. Note: I imagine full videos with just stuff that needs command blocks, or a clearly stated second half of a video that includes command blocks. One off uses in a video of ten ideas will create too much to think about, and I definitely want to see more cool stuff with command blocks than that. Personally, the french person thing does not fulfill these requirements for me, as a reasonable person without exhaustive knowledge of redstone components wouldn't think of whether it's possible and default to assuming it is. But what's more important than the technicalities of how gray an incident is, is the fact that People Get To Make Mistakes! As long as you show that you are trying to improve (as this very video shows), people are allowed to make mistakes along the way. What I am saying is in the context of sustainable future content, not how bad it needs to be to start cancelling. (Honestly, for this level of stuff you need repeated offences at a minimum.) Final disclaimer: This is my opinion and not anyone else's. People can have opinions besides my own.

I have an idea for the French door; so all you need to do is make an airport and any flights incoming from France cant get in. GENIUS
  • @Right_Sune
Purplers at 3:43: "You could subscribe!" Next sentence: "Even if it was possible, of course."
  • @avuwep
the anti-French door might actually be possible without command blocks. a while ago i had an idea for a door that only opens if an entity with the correct UUID is standing in the right spot. This could work by having an arrow with that entity's UUID as the owner light a tnt which pushes back armor stands on either side of it. because tnt knockback is calculated from the direction of the owner, you could make it so the have to stand in a specific position to knock all the armor stands onto the correct blocks for them to be detected, and if they are on those blocks, the door opens and the machine resets. Just don't let any french people put their arrows in the UUID checker
  • @babfel258
I think it's ok to use command blocks for either "joke" builds (like the anti French door) or if you just wanne test something, otherwise redstone contraptions shouldn't use command blocks
  • I feel like there's a spectrum of "I made a thing" Youtubers from Pure redstoners to command block/datapack tinkerers like PhoenixSC. And being on any point of that spectrum is completely fine. What matters most is setting expectations with your audience. Command block stuff is still pretty damn cool if it's done honestly!
  • @loz4830
i think a good way to do it would to be to continue to just use redstone for 9 of the ten creations but pick one of the best unfeasible ideas and use command blocks to make it possible, would keep the integrity of each episode but also add one even crazier contraption to every episode
  • @MilesLupine
Command blocks being used as a means to reload mobs into a contraption definitely makes more sense to do vs having to use a bunch of spawn eggs. Plus they can used in ways to enhance a build such as sending messages in chat or sounds outside of noteblock range. With the messages, yeah droppers and items could be used but could have a case of needing a bunch of droppers to get around the rng nature of them.
