When Olivia is talking about dress being heavy and she felt the weight of the dress on her arm, this is one of the reasons why women wore corsets, there are a lot of misconceptions about corsets, tight lacing is shown way too often in movies in tv shows, but actually tight lacing wasn't that often practiced, it wasn't a purpose of corsets to make waist smaller, corset was a supporting garment and one of the benefits of wearing it was that the weight of the dress was distributed to the center of the body which made it easier to wear a dress constructed from a lot of fabric.

Despite so many interviews talking about hair + costume not once was their comfort, or lack thereof, mentioned (I assume because they don't want to go out of their way to speak complaints on such beautiful and hard work of the designers), so that was a nice question!
