On this episode of Stay Tuned we head to Bristol, Tennesee to scoop up one of the most iconic hot rods that I've wanted forever and had to get my hands on. I was also invited to race in Cleetus' Bristol 1000 Crown Vic race, which was a BLAST! Going head to head with 30 other maniacs on such an iconic track was wild! Tony I just want to say thanks for the years of entertainment and gearhead wisdom. Your a standup guy and deserve the success you’ve worked so hard for.
  • @mikeoakes7721
Congratulations Tony! The 55 is coolest car ever in my opinion!
  • @bosqueboys
I totally agree with you, sitting in a tri-5 does give you that special feeling.

My daily driver in the 70's was a '55 Chevy 210 2 door, with a stroked 327, 3 speed and 4:56's. British racing green with black tuck and roll. At the same time, I street raced a '65 Chevy Malibu SS with a 454, 4 speed and 4:88's.
  • Grew up when 55-57's were everywhere.. had a '56 1st, then a '55 & finally a '57 tudor wagon C-D/Gas street & strip drag car, (tilt front end, fenderwells, M22, [several] & a couple 10K RPM, tunnel ram 302's). Used to run 348/409 11" flywheels, when I could find them; otherwise, a 12" truck flywheel w/ 11" pressure plate & 10.5" disk - a gear bangin' combo, plus a 40-some # flywheel for hole shot torque! LOL Then, 15 yrs later, built a concept '1957 F/C', (if they existed in '57), based on a perfect 55 tudor sedan I cut into pieces for the skin, & made a chopped windshield roadstar. Had a Hilborn Injected 392 Hemi from an alcohol FC, narrowed, box gusseted '57 Olds rear end w/ wheelie bars from a '62 Corvette Roadster gas dragster a friend bought & turned back into a street car. The frame was a concession to safety; Alston rails, then built a cage on them. The front suspension was a deviation from era for sanity & safety. The new Camaro came out in early '80's w/ the semi McPherson strut, (divorced spring). As soon as parts were available, bought a set of Koni drag shocks, then had a friend turn a pair of threaded sleeves to fit them & Koni jam nuts & turned GM's semi McP into real McP's for a fraction of the cost, (McPherson strut drag csrs were cutting edge; woulda cost me as much as the engine & rear end did. Never raced the car. Got it rolling & running but still short on interior metal, seat, safety equipment, then was offered a job in Florida, working at Vero Beach for the Dodgers as Athletic Trainer for the Vero Beach minor league club & in charge of post-surgical rehab for entire organization. I had been working for them in the NW League, (short season), & they reorganized rehab & designed the job for me. Bought new equipment for Dodger Stadium, then built a rehab facility @ Dodgertown & moved the replaced equipment there. Any player who had surgery came to me for rehab, played a week or 2 in Vero, then moved back up to where they came from, in how ever many steps they needed, (high A, AA, AAA & MLB above Vero). Younger players from below Vero played in a unofficial Rookie League at the Mets complex in Port St Lucie. Couldn't take the car, since baseball involves too much travel & didn't have a safe place to store it, (I lost my '57 wagon by storing it, so wasn't gonna risk it, again.), so I sold it. Always wanted a '55 post w/ a BBC & 4 speed, tho... mebbe you can live my dream for me, Tony.

I'm 81-years old, and you are talking to one of the original '55 Chevy owners and hot-rod custom guys. I got my first 55 in 1962 straight out of high school. A cherry 2-door dark green Bel Air 265 3-speed with overdrive. She was sweet, and girl magnet for sure! I put some full cone hubcaps on her that transformed her like I could hardly believe...lol! I got five more, all 210's with posts, right out of the Navy into college. Transformed the first one, into the hottest '55 in the Northwest In 1967. I was fortunate enough to acquire one of Jim Hall's hypo 327 back-up Chevy Chaparral long block's for only $800. (I never new what was in it?) Put a set of Corvette hypo heads on the alum. long block (best thing I could get at that time). The heaviest clutch I could get with HD drag-fast shifter, Anson bullet proof bell housing, 4:ll third member, and rebuilt rear axel and HD drag racing spring clamps (believe it or not, that was all I needed when installed right!). She turned 130 mph in 10.2 sec.! The next two were show cars, and my last was a totally stock light green automatic 6-banger with left over show car parts, like extra thick HD baby soft black naugahyde with 2" diamond tucked upholstery through-out (seats, doors, panels, and head-liner) from one of my show cars. I loved all my '55's, but I literally cried when I had to sell the last one, because she was going to be my forever '55! Our first baby was born with a rare disease, and we needed the money! So, please return your car to it's original beauty; paint her the light blue/cream two tone, replace the original body chrome, reinstall the original hood bird ornament, remove all the stock garbage on the front bumper, and 14"x8" black police interceptor wheels, with stock baby hubcaps with the white bow-tie. Install a set of wide BFG red-line radial tires. Heat the front coil springs evenly, enough to put a nice little rake on her. That's my take... Have fun!
  • Couldn't be happier for a dude Ive never met! Thanks for taking us along for the ride Tony!
  • @MastaT_150
Love the ‘55. I’m thinkin’ flat black with a red metal flake roof would look pretty sweet!
  • @crustycars7894
Tony is getting more respect than ever from me because he’s real and an open book. The cars are interesting to watch, good diversity and relatable.
  • @SSThomas84
WILD! I can't imagine the rush of the first couple laps around a legendary track! So cool
  • @Audi0Surferz
I'm stoked you decided to give your own channel a shot Tony, you and your boys having a jam working on stuff is nice and refreshing.
  • @flinttim
Tony, seeing your's and Mike's excitement about the 55 warms my heart. I'm 71 now but started out with a 210 like yours and then got a wagon. My fondest memories of my high school days involve that wagon. Eventually it had a 'glass doghouse with a bubble hood. I miss that car every day. Have fun with that one .
  • @jonm515
It's badass how you went from working for MT on HRG and Roadkill, to making your own channel that combines both and makes it better. Also the music is so rad
  • @shannonfamily
Absolutely awesome episode Tony. So nuts to see so many people I watch at a track that I love so dearly. Kudos to Cleetus, Finnegan and Derek. Fantastic...until you blew the motor! Can't wait to see you do that Tri 5
  • @jonmac155
It's Friday and it's going down. Been parked (trucker) and waiting for hours for the drop. Tony and the boys are throwing the heat. Simple quick builds that are the balls. Only suggestion is less pizza (nothing but junk franchise pizza at my spot) and get weird. Sky's the limit when things are done on a budget and from the junkyard. All the love to the Tony crew
