Paris 2024 Olympic Games:  Join us for LIVE coverage on @FRANCE24 of the Flame Lighting Ceremony from Olympia, Greece 🇬🇷, with Stuart Norval and James Vasina

The lighting of the Olympic flame is a symbolic moment that has been a tradition of the Olympic Games since 1936. The flame not only represents the positive values that man has always associated with the symbolism of fire, such as peace and friendship, but also acts as a link between the ancient and modern Games.

  • Thank you Greece for everything! How the hell Greeks manage to greade 4000 ago Democracy, Phylosophy, medicine, mathematics, science, theatre drama comedy, the idea of Olympic games has to stooping wars and fights in area word at the time and bringing them to olymbous statium to settle threre deference.. and today 2024 humanity still can not do nothing about stopping the chaos we are watching
  • Cool to see they still do the (literally) ancient ceremony & i appreciate that they are underlining the 'peace' portion of the Olympics considering current events, thanks for the coverage! 👍

Too much commentary! I specifically looked for and clicked on this link to see and hear the ceremony not a bunch of talking heads talking over everything. Also, I don't need to be reminded of information with banners on the screen I know what it is, I just clicked on it. An explanation of who the participants in the torch carrier group are. I just skipped over the speeches. This was a beautiful ceremony by Greek presenters and they should be treated with respect.
  • I wish they would stop interviewing and talking during the ceremony. It would be nice if they could do translations also.

I wish we could see the entire performance from the ladies and gentlemen dancers with music and sounds uninterrupted and NOT hear the interviews and rambling commentary until all of that was done. They can talk all they want later on. We have months until the games themselves. This is Greece's moment!

A Beautiful show we like so much, except too much the annoying talks from the hosts
  • It brings hope to the rest of the world that humanity can work together as 1 huge extended family

Wonderful to see such a prestigious and beautiful ceremony. Bravo!
  • I'm sure someone's going to ask, so I did the research. It was said that they didn't make use of the parabolic mirror for the torch lighting because the weather was too cloudy, so instead, they used a backup flame that was lit at the same spot during an earlier rehearsal.

Have the next one in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and the one after that in Hobart, Tasmania! See how many runners it takes to get the torch to the Game!

Too much RIDICULOUS talk by the commentators! This is the worst broadcast coverage of the ancient Lighting so far. All the solemnity and import of the occasion was TOTALLY smothered by the endless verbal diarrhea of the "talking heads." I'd give this coverage an "F" -- for Flatulence!!
  • In their Word, during the Olympics, all wars stopped. We are incapabe do do that.
  • For future reference, it's impolite to speak, over others and through a ceremony. Yes do provide translations and do let your audience, know what's happening. After all, we all here, for the loud music and ALL of the ceremony. Don't be rude and talk over others.
  • I think the commentators were very rude during this moving ceremony which I don’t think has ever been televised before! They should have been proud to be bringing it to us!😢

Is anyone being forbidden from the games? I hope that is the case. Two countries at minimum should be on that list.
