Peavey Butcher with EL34 output tubes (modded). Sounds like a JCM-800 with more balls to these ears. Filmed 1/18/11 with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 that cost $109 (cheap). No pedals were used.

Strat is a mexi Musicians Friend special edition.

I'm not a good player, so I was trying to showcase the amp's sound briefly. I didn't make this video for any other reason than to dispel the rumors that Peavey Butchers sound bad. This Butcher sounds great.

I have one of these amps too, and it loves JJ's and Mesa tubes alot. Tung sol not so much, but are better than groove tube's and ruby's.

@DelSpaarky - It's the original Peavey Butcher that was released in the 80's to compete with the JCM-800. It was sort of a clone of the 2203 JCM-800, but with 6L6 tubes and a few other changes that can sometimes make them a bit bright sounding. The fixed (nonadjustable) bias was another issue that kind of made it not as cool as well. I made quite a few changes to this beast to make it better, but I didn't completely re-do the whole amp. It was a good foundation to start with.

@dummerbube - Glad you liked it. I need to practice more so I can post decent vids of decent playing.

The hum adjusted does not exist any more on that amp. That system fried itself and burned the potentiometer. I put an adjustable bias in it's place when I installed the EL-34 tubes.

@Madstrgr It's a Port City 2x12. It ROCKS! I love that cab. I want two more just like it with different speakers. This one has Mojotone VB-30V speakers. I want to get another with Mojotone VB-30H speakers and one with Eminence Red Fang speakers. I have more cool amps to run and only two cabs to run them with at the moment.

Is this an older butcher or one of the new ones just released? Sounds real good, btw.

I wish I could say. Since I converted this amp to EL-34, I have no idea what kind of 6L6 tubes you should use in it. Unfortunately, I can't make a recommendation because this amp was very heavily modified. The transformers etc on this amp were great, but the output stages of this amp needed lots of work to sound good. I also modded the pre slightly as well.

Hey man I have the same amp but I was wondering about the tubes which one should I buy???

This is the original Butcher...not the newly released Butcher.
