Indonesia is building a new, $33 billion dollar capital city on the island of Borneo. Jakarta, Indonesia’s current capital and economic center, faces a variety of issues, including land subsidence, pollution and congestion. Because of this, in 2019, the government decided to relocate the capital away from Jakarta and build a new capital city in the province of East Kalimantan in Borneo. Named Nusantara, the new capital city is planned to be a digital smart city surrounded by a lush tropical landscape. It will bring many key benefits to Indonesia but will also have some issues and drawbacks. With construction having started in 2022, the first phase is planned to open in 2024. By the time its completed in 2045, it will host 1.9 million people and generate millions of jobs for Indonesia.

  • Hey guys! I've been experimenting with After Effects, new transitions and new visual styles to improve the quality of my videos. If you guys have any feedback, I'd love to hear it so I can make future videos better! Thanks!

as an ex-student of urban planning.. i follow this news. actually the location of the new capital city is a former mining area. there are at least 149 ex-mining pits in the area of the national capital (IKN) with an area of 256 thousand hectares. and the government will turn it into an urban forest.

im from borneo but malaysia side. I genuinely hope this mega project will be working out in the future. it definitely will bring benefit to this beautiful island borneo ofcourse with good management
  • Banyak yg pesimis. Kurang investorlah, resesi dll.

Nusantara is not outer islands. It literally means Nusa (island) Antara (in between), meaning islands in between of two continents (Asia, Australia) and two oceans Indian and Pacific)

Brasilia is a very succesfull planned capital city, I dont know why people keep saying it went wrong or something... Its one of the best cities to live in brasil
  • The capital area is actually in an old plantation forest. So in terms of biodiversity there's not much of it right now, the project aims to restore some of that

Jakarta's main problem within these centuries is water supply. If the local government build water depots to cover entire regions, then BAN the ground water pump, they will have less ground degradation. That means Jakarta's leaders should invite investor to build huge water depots. But there is no Jakarta's governor would think about this. They only think about money and short term policy for their own politics. Water canal is good, but only to reduce the incoming flood, not to reduce the ground degradation. And the "absorption well" is absolutely a dumb idea since the amount of water that were pump every single day is way huge than tons of absorption well could absorb the water. The useless well is just wasting lot of money and broken the infrastructures. #SaveJakarta
  • Hey, I just want to say that I appreciate your pronunciation of indonesian names. I can see that you put a bit of effort on it. Even though some perfectionists might say that it's not that perfect, I think it's pretty good compared to most english speaking youtubers who have also covered the same topic. I mean, I appreciate it when an english speaker didn't just straight-up adding an extra syllables to long names like "Palangkaraya" and "Balikpapan"
  • Let's hope Borneo will not be ruined. But it may just become the most beautiful ASEAN capital because Borneo is so wonderful.
  • @PuNicAdbo
I have heard of this before a few times. Good video thanks.
  • @mademawa2732
Your pronaunciation of the places in Indonesia are perfect 👍👍
  • @ozmanule8154
I'm an Indonesian, but somehow I've felt that I learned something new about history more clearer here that was taught in high school.
  • 😊❤🎉 i love countries. Thanks you for adding countries🎉

As a Malaysian living in Borneo, the movement of capital to Kalimantan is gonna benefit Malaysia too, for better AND for worse. The Pan-Borneo Highway connecting Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak, and Kalimantan had been undergoing construction for a few years, even before the announcement. While the new highway will connect these landmasses for ease of transport there’s been some controversies about the corruption behind the construction. It’d be interesting to see what more scandals would arise in the coming decades as a result of this endeavour. Otherwise, great video! There’s some glitches there and there with the visuals BUT OH I’M SURE nobody would bat an eye. This feels professionally produced.
