Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory) joins us this week and talks about the feeling of ā€˜constantly being an outsiderā€™ coming to Hollywood from a humble upbringing in the PNW and then heading back to Washington after years in the film industry. Jon shares some crazy stories from his family history that helped shape him into the anxiety and stress free man that he is today. We also get into (of course) our shared bond of horror, why Napoleon Dynamite never had a sequel, and Jonā€™s memorable run-ins with Will Ferrell, James Cameron, and Ali G.

I worked with him on set for a commercial and he was honestly so freakin cool. Youā€™re always told donā€™t talk to the talent unless your job is directly working with them like Director, DP, makeup etc. but he started up a conversation with me and was just cool. Super genuine and a great guy.

So basically because he does whatever he feels like he wanted to do - GOSH!
  • I remember watching Napoleon Dynamite for the first time and at the end of the movie I thought, "What Did I Just Watch", so I watched it again and absolutely fell in love with the movie. Every so often I get the DVD out and watch it again. It's one of those movies you could watch over and over and just never get tired of it.

He was so damn funny in Blades of Glory with Will Ferrell.
  • Jon reminds me of a friend who won 70 million dollars in the lottery. He never changed and didnt let anything or one try to change him. The only that changed was the decimal point on his bank account. Its been a few years since he won and most have forgotten that he did.
  • @KimF1
I just loved him in "School for Scoundrels" and "Mama's Boy".

To sum it all up. Jon Heder does whatever the heck he feels like it
  • Blades Of Glory is one of my absolute all time faves! šŸ‘šŸ» He seems like such a cool, down to earth guy!

Napoleon Dynamite will forever be the most iconic comedic character. Never died laughing so hard at a character
  • Hopefully Napoleon Dynamite makes him a living for the rest of his life with how much that film is loved

Canā€™t wait to show my kids Napoleon dynamite one dayā€¦ The pure joy that will be on their faces

I went to UGA when Napoleon Dynamite blew up and Jon Heder came to visit the campus one time. During his speech, a student got on stage carrying a steak šŸ„© and asked Jon if he could throw it in his face and Jon obliged šŸ˜‚

My guess is that his sense or morals and empathy didnt allow him to be apart of the "hollywood culture". He kept mentioning being an outsider. Really hammered the point. Good on him. Do what makes you happy
  • No wonder that Liger was so awesome. He majored in animation!
  • @AnthonyL0401
His dad was a primary care doctor from Salem, Oregon, where I grew up.

Pretty sure it wasnā€™t him who ditched Hollywood. Seems like an optimistic take on the situation.

It really seems no one in the comments below are actually familiar with Jon Heder. Honestly, he wasnā€™t ā€œramblingā€ in this interview so much as it appears he was trying to give a decent answer without having to just blurt out the truthā€¦that heā€™s a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and because everyone seems to hate ā€œMormonsā€, especially Hollywood, the real reason he stepped back is because he wonā€™t compromise his values for a paycheck, and in this industry, thatā€™s highly frowned upon.
