After seam sealing the akto my self I am really happy with the akto and I trust it 100% it was an easy process and hilleberg sent me the sealer and some pegs and guys and line locks as an apology so I’m happy with that .however one short sentence in the spec of the tent /brochure/website would solve everything and stop people been abit disappointed “we recommend a small amount of sealant is applied to the vent cover as it may allow a small amount of water ingress “

Anyway anyone reading this don’t let this put you off the akto or hilleberg they are outstanding tents

The updated version DEFINITELY leaks around the door vent zip.

There ain't a SIL nylon tent on the market (at least, not from a big manufacturer) that comes factory seam sealed, the tent would end up costing double easily (not in materials, just labour and space cost of leaving it up for 24 hours) 👍 It's not an hard job either tbh, it's just leaving it set up or the flay splayed out for the sealer to go off. Part and parcel of you want a SIL nylon tent imo, sealing it. I know Hilleberg bang on about their stitching method, but I'd still seal all the fly seams.
  • Hopefully you get a better result out of them than I did pal, gutted for you. Shame as it is truly a lush tent! Lee 👍

Exact same problem that I had a few weeks ago with a brand new AKTO. Also had a leak at the door tie back point.

dude im gonna track more water then that when i get in the tent. condensation is inevitable. and you are worried of a little drip in the vestibule. no tent stays completely dry in cold wet weather. and trust me god wont piss a direct constant stream on the weakest point of the tent.

Had an Akto since 2012. That seam was waterproof until 2018. Bit of silicone did the job. Double poles are blimmin handy in the Shetlands.
  • Have the same problem with my Akto , as soon as the zip wets out it starts dripping and end up with a pool on the foot print. Gave it a coat of sealer and that worked for a time but last few times out its started to leak again.
  • Nice video ROBOLOGY. It looks like we are both in similar stages of YT. lol I've got an akto myself and have really loved it. Though, I have heard of a number of them leaking at the same zipper / vent point. I feel mine has performed really well.

Essentially this is a known design fault and should have been addressed in the manufacturing process by Hilleberg. I cured it by sealing from the inside with seam sealant. Perhaps Hilleberg should advise this treatment on first use and include a small tube of seam sealant with the tent.

  • Had my akto for 15 years I started getting the same prob so I seam sealed it myself been ok since but 700 £ now na shouldn't happen, persevere it'll serve you well.
  • @OutdoorPrep
Yeah known issue indeed. Too bad they can’t get it right :/ I still haven’t tested mine, will need to find a garden and a hose 😄 Keep us posted

What made you guys go with the Akto instead with the Fjällräven Abisko Lite 1? Isn't the Abisko even a bit more longer in the inside and ventilation can be handled better? Still can't decide between these two... The Soulo for example would most likely be too short for me (6' 6") and is also noticeable heavier... :( Thanks for your answers!

Hey Man I have the exact same problem with my akto. Got a few questions: At 3:05 there seems to be rain coming through the outer fly of the tent, was this fixed by seam sealing?... How did you apply the seam seal? from the in or outside? and just on the seams?
  • I thought the way Hilleberg makes the seems on their tents are the reason they dont need seem sealed? Something to do with using very cold needles that dont cause the needle holes to spread wide and easily allow water inside.
  • Did you seamseal the tent when it was pitched or just in the house
  • Blimey, thats a shame and shouldn't happen on a tent of that cost, hope you get something from their customer service dept.
  • @snowymatrix
Yeah send it back mate try something cheaper you might be surprised 👍🍻
