In this 2013 report, we narrow our focus to just one of our eight D-Day veterans, who returned to Normandy, France last week. Sixty-nine years to the day, Sgt. Major Robert Blatnik was able to walk the same stretch of sand that he and his men assaulted at 6:30am on June 6 in 1944. It was his first time coming back, and he told Doug Dunbar this trip made a memory that will stay with him until the day he dies.

My grandfather was on that beach as well and passed 3 years ago. I can't imagine what they went thought at such a young age. Thank you to all the men that sacrificed their lives so we can live ours. Rest in peace.

Imagine how hard it is to step on land where thousands have died, and probably one of those were his friends.

I was a young Marine flying to Okinawa in 1995. Little did I know it would make a huge impression on me. The plane was full of WW2 Marines. There was a special event being held for the 50th Anniversary of the battles for Mount Suribachi and Okinawa. I was omw to serve a 1 year tour in Okinawa so I was in my Dress Alphas. When I walked on that plane you would have thought it was my birthday and everyone was there for a surprise party lmao. They all cheered and introduced themselves and started telling me that I was a little late for the war LOL. I sat next to a Marine Raider who started to get emotional when I sat down next to him. I was only a 20 year old kid but by the time I left that plane I had a whole new respect and understanding of those great men.

What an inspiration. Because of people like him I respect veterans so much. They don’t care about politics, they just care about protecting our beautiful country. God bless his soul, and every other fallen and alive veteran ✊🏼🇺🇸

You can hear from his tone, his face, his eye. He seen a hell on earth. I believe if he visit that beach, he still can hear the sound of mortar and artillery, machine gun fire, hail of bullet zipping past and the sound of soldier shout in pain.
