The trollish Schottish från Korsbäck - Scandi Folk Tune

Published 2022-11-20
Nice Finnish tune with rhythmical subtleties. And once more a proof of how bowing patterns can alter the feeling of music !
Tune : Schottis från Korsbäck (also called Tresk schottis), Österbotten, Finland, after Valter Enlund, after Sigfrid Liljedal.
I learned this tune from Peter Enroth.

Always love to have more trollish tunes! (even though my trollkors is starting to glow brighter and brighter :p)

Mark 5:50 begins explaining insight about having fun with changing rhythm then gently asks local raven to be respectfully quietly IN RAVEN TONGUE. This, folks, is a remarkable musician. Let us all be infinitely greatful we can share in her skill and delightful expression 🥳
  • Hello Emelie. A few updates to the history of this tune. I had the privilage to play with Valter before he passed away about 10 years ago. Valter learned it from his fiddle teacher Sigfrid Liljedal who was a farm worker/peasant at their home when Valter was a kid, Sigfrid was from Korsbäck. We normally call this tune Tresk schottis (Tresk is what korsbäck is called by the local people). Nice to see that this tune has spread overseas. Thank you for the Video!

This funny troll/devilish idea you had to go with the music really reminds me of the lyrics to Hårgalåten. You should really do a video with that theme!

    Thanks! Happy holidays! 🌞🎄🎄🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
  • A cute little tune, and masterfully illustrated as always... But my favorite part of this video is when you were talking to the raven. I absolutely adore ravens, and often call out to the ones at my in-laws' island, which often gets me strange looks. Maybe I should try playing music for them... They might fly over to say hello more often.

Why have I not seen you at any of the Swedish folk music festivals? You should be at Korrö next year (2024)!
  • Very attractive instrument Ragnarok of God of War comes to mind.❤
  • Thanks for explaining…I’ll learn this on my accordion
  • Dansant en effet et tout à fait trollesque. Coup de génie pour l'image d'entrée 👍Accessoirement jolies lumières nordiques.
  • I recently discovered your channel and love your videos. I was wondering if you could make some videos that explain the dances that go with the tunes you play (like hambo, polka, schottische/reinlender, etc.), and demonstrate the footwork. Or if you're more a musician than a dance instructor, maybe bring a guest instructor/friend on to teach dances.
  • It might feel more trollish, if played on a bass violin . You played, so I thought of a joyous young person .
  • Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what kind of pants are you wearing? ive seen you wear that kind that are like baggy down to the knees in several videos and i have no clue what word to use to look for some to buy. there just isnt anything like them in the US in stores, but they look like they would be so comfortable.

Estoy fascinado con la Nyckelharpa. Me gusto como te comunicas con el ¿pato? 😀 . Saludos!!🎶🎵🎻

And as everyone knows, you got to watch out for those Finn Trolls. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
  • Okay but the pressing question is: which instrument of Scandi folk is the most trollish?! Nykelharpa is too delicate and elvish. Maybe låtfiol?
