The Secret I Kept From My Wife Until Our Wedding Day

For nearly a year, I have been keeping a big secret from my wife, @SoheeFit.

I kept sneaking off for 30 minutes at a time for video calls she didn’t know about, or pretending they were for work when they weren’t.

In bed I would often put one headphone in so she couldn’t hear what I was doing, and turning my screen away so she couldn’t see either.

I set myself a goal of learning just a teeny tiny bit of Korean as a show of respect to her and her family on our wedding day.

I wasn’t originally planning on sharing this video from a couple of months ago, because I try to make social media about posting educational content for you all.

But, it seems silly not to share one of the most important days of my life.

So, here is my full wedding speech, for any of you who are interested.

Well shit, I follow a guy for random health and fitness content and here I am tearing up over one of the best wedding speeches I’ve ever heard. Well done and congratulations
  • You know, in Asian cultures, a gesture like this carries immense meaning. It truly exemplifies the best way to honor and show respect for her family. Beautiful moment! 👍❤️

When her father gets up and goes and hugs him, It was the moment I knew he's made a great choice in life. Congratulations Ben.

His in-laws already approved of him, but that speech in Korean showed massive respect to the family and they were obviously very moved by it. Beautiful.
  • 64 year old grumpy and grizzled old biker here. Mate, you brought tears to this old f****rs eyes with your eloquent, heartfelt and genuinely moving speech. Learning Korean on the ‘quiet side’ was a truly loving move. I wish you both well and may your giggles never stop. From Chelsea, London, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧
  • Don’t know why this showed up in my feed but now I’m sitting here crying over a wedding speech for two people I’ve never met. I want to show this to every single woman I know (including my two youngest daughters) and tell them to find a man who will love you like this. Beautiful speech and beautiful couple. Congratulations! Wishing you many many decades of happiness together.

You won't regret it mate. Met my Korean bride on a city bus in Gunsan...still married 42 years later. Great speech, and good on you for learning Hangul. Congrats and good luck.

I can only imagine what it would feel like to be loved that strongly. I will never know. Congratulations to both of you for having what it takes to create your love story. May you have many, many happy years together. ❤

I did exactly the same as you when I got married in Hong Kong just 3 weeks ago. I had been learning Mandarin on an app on my iPad for just over 3 years & spoke in front of my wife’s family in Mandarin as most of them do not speak English. I wanted to do it to show respect to them & thank goodness they understood what I was trying to say & I secretly learnt a Chinese song to sing to my wife & I sang it in front of her family It was one of the most nerve racking thing I’ve ever done but I’m so glad I did it.
  • I saw the short to this and am happy there was a tip that there was this nine minute video. I loved it when Sohees parents got up to hug him and show their appreciation and acceptance.
