Wizards and Warriors animated fantasy documentary lore video series on the world of Middle-Earth - Lord of the Rings continues with the longform video on the First Age, as we talk about the Rise of Morgoth. In this video we discussed the creation of the world of Tolkien, its powers and races and we see how and why the Elves became the enemies of the Dark Lord Melkor, who they called Morgoth, after their leader Fëanor cursed him for killing his father Finwë and stealing his prized possession - Silmarils. We see how the evil first rose in the world of Arda and will talk about Ungoliant and other evils, about the Valar and Maiar, about the Elves and their sub-groups - Vanyar, Ñoldor, Teleri, and Avari. In Middle-Earth, Morgoth attacks the Teleri Elves in Doriath under Thingol and his allies Cirdan and Denethor starting the War of the Jewels with the First Battle of the Beleriand. Meanwhile, in the Valinor, the Noldor Elves of Feanor attack their Teleri relatives in the First Kinslaying in order to take their ships. Afterwards, Feanor and his sons travel to the Middle-Earth in order to fight Morgoth and take the Silmarils, leading to the battles of Dagor-nuin-Giliath and Lammoth and the death of Feanor. We show the aftermath of the death of Feanor, as the Noldor kingdoms rise in the Middle-Earth taking on Morgoth once again, this time at the battle of Dagor Aglareb, where Feanor's sons Fingolfin and Maedhros, and others fought against the Dark Lord and we also talked about the rise of the humans - the House of Edain. We will describe the battle of Dagor Bragollach and the rise of the father of Dragons Glaurung. In the aftermath of the defeat at the hands of Morgoth, the Elves and Men were on the back foot and the evil spread in the Middle-Earth, but from those dark days, an unlikely pair rose to challenge the darkness - Beren and Lúthien and defeated Morgoth. Their tragic love story inspired Maedhros to create his Union, which attacked the Dark Lord during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad - the battle of Unnumbered Tears [   • Rise of Morgoth - Middle-Earth First ...  ], while the episode on the fall of Morgoth will describe Morgoth's curse and the Rise of Húrin's son Túrin, Fall of Nargothrond, Nienor and her meeting with Turin and the biggest tragedy of Tolkien, as Turin and Nienor died and so did Glaurung. After their death, the Dark Lord finally released Hurin, leadgin fighting each other for the Silmarils and power, the Second Kinslaying and the Fall of Doriath. In the aftermath another great story, that of Tuor started, and with it a New Hope was born however his coming to the last great free city - Gondolin, roused jealousy of some of the denizens and the city was betrayed to Morgoth as a result and fell to the Dark Lord, leading to the War of Wrath and the fall of Morgoth by the other Valar

You can tell Tolkien was a Professor of Literature. This story sounded just like the stories in Greek, Indian and Chinese Mythology that I read at University. Tolkien did exactly what he said. Made a Mythology for his people, the Saxons of England.

If Morgoth had been less goth. We would never have come to this.
  • @woebaby
I love how every fight with a Balrog ends with both parties being pulled off a ledge
  • Sauron: Fine. I'll do it myself. Did Sauron ever intend to continue Morgoth's work of destroying everything, or did he just co-opt his master's remnants for his own time in the spotlight of ruling Middle Earth. Also, good on the Edain for getting that island of Numenor. I forsee nothing but long life, purity, and dry lands for them in the future. No siree, no bad ends them whatsoever.

I will always remember first reading the Silmarillion and being blown away by the War of Wrath, it felt like such an epic culmination with Morgoth finally being overthrown.
  • This is the BEST content creator I've ever found on YouTube. Not only here on Wizards and Warriors but also on Kings and Generals alike... ...

This series was so awesome. I spent last winter reading the Silmarilian and the Book of Lost Tales, so I really appreciate you covering the First Age. I'm looking forward to seeing you cover the Second Age!

I knew nothing about the first age, and neither am I the biggest LOTR nerd, but I was at the edge of my seat throughout this entire video, this was bloody amazing, and makes me want to get into more Middle-Earth lore now. 10/10 job, this was awesome!
  • Beautifully animated, narrated and produced. I've not seen this covered with original artwork and put together like this anywhere on the internet, let alone YouTube. Well done!

So it begins... the retribution long awaited upon fell Melkor!

" One to the Seas, One to the Skies, and One to the Earth, restless and warped, it's story not yet complete. "
  • This series is amazing, thank you for all your efforts as I love seeing how the maps are affected by events <3

Feels like a video is missing before this compilation should come out

What a tremendous creation. The time and effort it took must be acknowledged with the highest honors. J.R.R is smiling and relighting his pipe in great delight.

Poor Melian. Poor Dortiath. Tolkien said it was via the love between Melian and Thingol that she was empowered beyond her ken, able to then effect physical reality in a way she never could before, thus able to cast and channel the Girdle. Similarly to how Manwë and Varda empower each other. With the death of Melian's husband, she lost the better part of her magic and her anchor to Middle-earth, it was impossible to maintain the barrier and an agony to remain.

Glorfindel survived the sack of gondolin, he would go on to reside with Rivendell even in the third age. It was glorfindel, not Arwen, who rescued Frodo from the Nazgul and brought him to Imladris

Valar: I guess there is no more things to worry about. I mean who could even replace Melkor as the chief troublemaker ? Sauron: Allow me to introduce myself
  • I respect that you guys used the Silmarillion version of Gil-Galad's parentage, but Christopher Tolkien said that it's an editorial error, and Ereinion Gil-Galad is Orodreth's son.
