corrections and comments > I DIDN'T FORGET THE SATURN! this isn’t meant to be a comprehensive list of all console startups/menus. i mainly wanted to focus on the Big Three™ and added in the dreamcast later on because i thought it was relevant enough. i didn’t want to go too obscure with the consoles i chose. i wasn't aware of the saturn while researching, and assumed it was just a CD player with nothing more. i apologize that i didn't look more into it, but i didn't want to focus too much on it > the og xbox ambience voice isn’t SAM, the software automatic mouth, but is various random cuts of the apollo missions to the moon > the xbox one and series x dashboards overlap. i didn't know about it, i am a nintendo/playstation guy, but i still feel that it was necessary to differentiate where the series x was introduced > the 360 came out in 2005. i'd always thought it released alongside the ps3, but i was completely wrong. apologies for that, my confidence grew too big when scriptwriting

one more interesting detail about the Wii U's menu is that if you leave it alone for a bit, the music kinda calms down and goes quiet until you press something, then the music swells up again
  • @Roman6025
the little motor sound the Wii makes before startup makes me even more nostalgic than the startup sound itself

Fun fact: The system settings in the wii menu is an entirely separate program to the regular main menu It's actually a locked down version of the opera web browser (the web browser that would be put on the wii shop channel a year after launch), that's why wii boxes on day one have an opera logo on them, even though they didn't have any web browser for another year. The reason it takes a second to load the wii settings is because it's booting up opera web browser to load the HTML files that change the settings.
  • The 3DS menu is my favorite. I love it so much. If you blow on the mic the icons spin faster.
  • Fun fact: the wii health and safety screen is just a glorified way of connecting a wiimote, because when you press a, the controller "wakes up" and connects to the wii, so you can just press any button and it will do the same

The 3DS had a game called: “Nintendo Badge Arcade” it essentially gave you these badges/stickers to win to bring in more customization to your 3DS menu, it was a neat little feature and it also made Nintendo earn a little more cash

One nice little touch I like about the 3DS menu is that the WiFi setting has its own music for some reason. It’s so neat and I love it.

just wanna say, watched 2 videos so far, thank you so much for having subtitles! really makes this great content even better and easier for me to enjoy!

Tbh the wii u menu was honestly the best menu, idk If it’s because it’s what I grew up with and it’s just nostalgic but it’s also so unique, during online school I’d listen to the menu music for hours

In terms of home consoles, the Wii U menu is for sure my favourite. The music was both catchy and relaxing, and it genuinely felt like a fun place to be. However, my favourite menu ever has to be the 3DS. The sheer amount of personality provided by the banners on the menu prior to launching the game was incredible, and the system has the best activity log of any system I’ve ever used. The 3DS’s music was also amazing.
  • Wii: You may die by playing on this console, just thought I’d remind you for the 800th time.

fun fact that im sure has been said. on the ps2 in the config menu. the orbs and hexagonal prisms represent a clock and you can actually decode the time from it. Also all the system sounds are slightly different each time its booted and the whooshing waves in the background are randomized. It's honestly a work of art. also the animation the OG xbox startup animation is also slightly different every time, being a realtime render also also, some models of ps1 had a visualiser in their cd player
  • @Kiritomens
I honestly love the PS3 menu. It's pretty easy to understand if you just want to play games, just go to the games section. For me the most fun was going trough the endless setting menu as a kid. Like that settings menu had it all. Like you're going to let me attach random HID devices. I would also just trow every CD and DVD into the PS3. Like let's see what a PC rom game does. O i can actually just read the files on the disk lol. The PS3 really was a beast.

The blades with the original Xbox 360 boot logo was the best combination for the Xbox 360. Clean, looked nice, easy to navigate, didn’t push the Xbox Live Marketplace/content you didn’t come for in your face. Then the NXE and Kinect happened and Xbox quickly lost their way. Feel like that and the PS3’s XMB were the two best

The Sega CD (Mega CD in Japan / EU) also had a startup and a menu. -On both the Sega CD/Mega CD Models 1 and 2, The Sega/Mega CD and Sega logo would dance around the screen (Though the animation set was different between models) -Music would also play in the background (Sega CD Models 1 and 2 had a different song, where as the Mega CD would have the same song, regardless of Model or region) -The Sega/Mega CD was also capable of playing Audio CD and CD+G disks. (Press A on the boot screen to get to this) -Though harder to access on Model 2 systems, you could also access another menu from the CD Player screen that allowed you to edit saves on the Sega CD's ROM, or the optional RAM Cartridges. It is kinda like the PS1's memory card screen, but more bland. -The Japanese Mega CD Model 2 also had an Image of Sonic as the background. The European variant had a large golden disc instead. If you want to take a look at these, I highly recommend you use Kega FUSION, it runs the BIOS and the Sega CD Games very well. Sega CD Model 1 Startup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SOFK9vg45g Sega CD Model 2 Startup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzTSF61epwo Japanese Mega CD Model 1 Startup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a0db6ZJjfw Japanese Mega CD Model 2 Startup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anpY9ZSXwSs EU Mega CD Model 1 Startup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAv0izolEl8 EU Mega CD Model 2 Startup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhnrYmRvU_0 (Has the correct screen throughout the video) -The Sega Master system (Unsure of which model/region, i think it was the MK1) also had a boot screen, that had a hidden game called "Snail Maze" -The Japanese Master System (MKII) had a screen when you didn't have a cartridge inserted. It featured a animation, with music. The stars in the background also flashed to the music. A video of it is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvBoqQH1y_U Apologies if some of this information is incorrect. Great video btw! and sorry for the long comment!

I wish Nintendo would’ve allowed for custom themes on the Switch so people can make it theirs.
  • @ianeons9278
Imo the Wii U & 3DS had the best menus of any console in history.
