Carbamazepine can cause SJS too not only lamotrigine. Even phenytoin can cause steven-johnson syndrome. I love the video though great content I look forward to learning more from u sir

This is GOLD! Great graphic representation of Bipolar disorder Tx that no one breaks down like that! Awesome rapid review Qs to help memorize side effects! Thanks so much!

Really helped me in PA school, thank you. Especially the practice questions. *For SJS, both lamotrigine and carbamazepine can cause it, so they probably won't show up together among answers. For elevated LFTs, both valproic acid and carbamazepine can cause that, though valproic acid may be the more classic case. I'd also bet they wouldn't have both as answer options for transaminitis. Many thanks again!

This is so dead on perfect! So simply understood. Thank you so very much.
  • @Xed_Life
Great videos! One correction though...carbamazepine and oxcarbazepine can also cause SJS and it is most common with carbamazepine...especially in Asian patients.

Dr. Dirty you are the best and we love you, but I think everyone agrees that carbamazepine should have been included in your SJS mention (especially if the patient is HLA-B*1502).
  • @gzclover
amazing video. I just wanted to add some comments that in addition to lamotrigine, carbamazepine also causes Steven Johnson syndrome. so at 11:17 , the answer should be C and D.

All the MOAs (besides lithium) have to do with sodium channel inactivation. When someone needs a mood stabilizing medication, at first they're like Nah Nah Nah, I'm fine. But then they get on one and their Na's are inhibited and they're happier for it :) Valproic acid: Valorie LiFTS the plates and throws them on the ground. Elevated LFTS and decreased platelets. Lamtotrigine: Lamo, whammo. (looks like someone smacked the white of that kids rice) SJS rash.  Carbamazepine: A Granny (agranulocytosis) is driving her Car(bamazepine). She parks it on the CURB next to a fire hydrant to read a MAGAZINE. This makes people mad; it induces anger. (P450 inducer). If there's a fire, no one can get to the fire hydrant to access the water!! No water to spray because of anti diuretic hormone. (SIADH)
