@ the third story Heeey! Another person with muscular dystrophy! I also used to be wheelchair bound and had the exact same experience. People would count heads in a room and skip me. I was entirely invisible. No one would ever look at me. It was incredibly frustrating, to just want to be seen even if in passing. Everyone would flash a smile at everyone else they passed, but not me. It's this stupid societal thing where people are so terrified of staring at disability that they end up being even more hurtful by never ever looking at you. The only times anyone ever, ever, talked to me, or asked me how I was doing, or smiled at me, they were also disabled. And now I'm part of that brigade, I think. Whenever I see someone in a wheelchair or otherwise with a visible disability, I smile and I give em a nod like I do anyone else I meet eyes with. And I can almost guarantee you they know that I'm disabled even before I start hobbling just because I acknowledged them. It's sad. It's weird. I've felt that too. Anyway, I hope the best to you, from one person with muscular dystrophy to another.
