Today's episode is all about the charming town of Alesund, Norway. Get ready for an adventure where we explore without spending a dime or booking any fancy excursions.

Our first mission? Climbing a mountain for some seriously epic views. We are heading to Aksla Viewpoint! Imagine standing on top and soaking in the breathtaking scenery. From the top you get to see the Art nouveau touches and the pastel palette of the downtown buildings, while the Sunnmøre Alps provide a dramatic backdrop to this city. Then, we strolled through most of the old town, discovering its nooks and crannies.

After all that exploring, our stomachs started growling, so we grabbed some lunch. But wait, the adventure doesn't stop there! We swung by a brewery because, if you have been here a while you know we love a good brewery stop!

As the day winds down, we say bye to the gorgeous town as we sail away. But, of course, the perfect end to our day is waiting for us at Luminae, the Retreat restaurant on the ship. What an epic day and a great last stop on our Norway adventure!

I live here/there. I have lived here and there in Norway. From the Arctic, to the south and east. I will never leave Ålesund again. I love living here.i just spent 24 hours in Oslo, and when I got home, the second my plane landed and I got off, the ocean air just made me stop and enjoy. Every time I leave, coming back reminds me so much why I love it here. It's nice to get the reminder from time to time It's easy to get bored, but there is nothing like coming home. Even after just one day. Edit. That troll in kongens gate, then kings street, that troll was there when I was a young little lad, 30 years ago. I have no idea how old it is, but it's been there for a long, long time. It's a piece of history, and is probably way older than the two of you.

glad to see you enjoy my lovely little city.
  • Ålesund is not the third largest city in Norway. Ålesund is the ninth largest city in Norway. Otherwise, great video from Ålesund. 😊

Glad you enjoyed our town! After the fire in 1904 it was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style, not Art Deco. The Art Deco style started around 1920.

Great video! Norway is my dream vacation.

Great video! For people that cannot do the stais, there is also a tourist train that goes to the top. We did that and it was really nice, you see a lot from the surroundings. The town itself was nice to walk around and explore the shops.

The tree is called Apeskrekk (Apescare) in Norwegian. I googled it and the scientific name for the family is Araucariaceae. Imported to Europe in the mid 1700s.

Aw, you didn't visit 'Atlanterhavs Parken' Aquarium. Well, that would probably have taken too much of your day. Still, a reason to visit again. =)

I'm Norwegian but spent 30+- years living in Seattle. There were several of these trees on the drive from north Seattle to the UW where my father taught. We called them monkey puzzle trees. I believe they were imported from Asia.
  • I cant believe how empty the stairs were. The threat of rain maybe scared people away. LOL

  • Great video ! Thanks for the beer 🍺 Emma looks stunning. Which beer did you like the best? How did you do in the casino? We lived in Vegas for 25 years. Thanks for the video 🍺

You answered my question in the video about comparing it to Alaska. I see a lot of similarities but different in a lot of ways. Just going to have to see for myself some day. As long as they have the Monkey gin. Ha.

Hi! the "funny" tree is an Auracaria. It comes from Chile. :)

I'm just curious - have you found the food quality to have stayed the same as from your last Retreat cruises? I sailed the Retreat twice this year, and found it consistently good in Lumina and the specialty restaurants, but the quality and variety in the MDR and buffet just seems to have gotten consistent worse - last Retreat cruise was May, and I have one coming up in August. I took a transatlantic crossing in Oct not in the Retreat, and have to say the food, except in specialty, was cafeteria grade. All and all, I love Celebrity, especially the staff and the Edge class ships, but I worry if you don't pay for The Retreat, it's not really a premium line. Love your videos. PS - I'm on fjord cruise on the Apex in the Retreat fall 2024 and your post as helpful.
