So better fuel efficiency equals more maintenance, so how is that efficient if it needs more repairs? Only politicians receiving cash gifts from lobbyists can answer that question.
  • Modern engines with GDI, plastics, electronics = more 💩to break. There's beauty in simplicity. The bean-counter engineering (build-em cheap, sell them at a king's ransom) rampant throughout the automotive industry has led to more efficient but less durable vehicles.

…”it’s not like your old Honda that was great you shoulda kept it”lol had me lmao

You forgot oil dilution in the 1.5 engine needs oil change every 5000 miles
  • @garydiane1577
The root cause is the egr system. Direct injection by itself is superior. The carbon comes from the exhaust gas that is pumped backed into the air intake to be reburned, to theoretically reduce emissions.
  • 5:55 The piston rings getting gunked up is not brought up enough and in my opinion one of the biggest with gdi’s in genral but especially the Kias and Hyundais with the oil consumption issues. The oil smells like it’s half gas.
  • I have seen more gdi engines blow headgaskets more then any other car
  • Toyota didn’t do their customers any favors with owner maintenance either. Starting about 2010 they began pushing the 10K oil changes(makes me so 😡). They also began issuing owners service schedules that went out to 120K miles with no recommendation for both coolant and transmission service. A lot of people just assumed that the new fluids were so good you never had to change them.

I believe motors that have a combination of Direct Injection and Port Injection performance better as they don't have the carbon build up.

Stop moving the camera I’m getting seasick Jesus

So don't buy anything newer than 2005...

Pretty much everything is GDI and turbo nowadays. Maintenance is key for any engine. That Honda engine is a garbage design however. I work at Toyota and it amazes me how ignorant people are about basic maintenance on their cars.
  • Only buy Multi points or Dual injection cars, carbon buildup is a nightmare in all GDI cars

As owner of 99 Civic, I love hearing these videos. Engine issues is last thing I worry about.
  • The government forces makers to do dumb crap to jump through their EPA hoops. The EPA is also partially responsible for lifetime tranny fluid and 5-10K mile oil changes. Auto makers claim we are producing less pollutants simply by telling people not to replace car fluids as often or ever. This is one of the BEST explanations of the downfalls of GDI systems out there. Never buy a turbo GDI car. Anthony hits a homerun on this one!😊😊😊
  • I have turn the tides. I have had cvt transmissions and tons of GDI and it comes down to maintenance. People complain because they suck. They never educate their selves. I have taken a cvt nissan trans to 268k Miles just 15k trans flushes. Proved that one wrong. GDI engines I have taken over 200k not one issue basic maintenance and weekly inspections. People say that is overkill. Those people are just lazy!!
