BELEM in Lisbon, Portugal: from Pastel de Belem to Torre de Belem 😁😋😅

Belem is a freguesia (civil parish) and district of Lisbon, Portugal, famous for the original pastel de Belem (sold in the shop called Pastéis de Belém) and also for some of the most notable monuments of Lisbon, like the Belem Tower (Torre de Belém), the Jerónimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos), the Padrão dos Descobrimentos monument, and Belém Palace (official residence of the President of Portugal). We didn't visit the Belém Palace (next time 🤞😉), but managed to see all others.

Belém is heavily associated with the age of discoveries in the 16th century, when Portuguese navigators sailed to explore the world. It's located about 25 min west of Praça do Comércio in downtown Lisbon if you come by elétrico (# 15E), as we did. Very worth the day trip. But if you're more curious to discover the difference between pastel de Belem and pastel de nata, keep watching as well 😁.

Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, with about 3 million people living in the metropolitan area. It's mainland Europe's westernmost capital and the only one along the Atlantic coast. And Belem's history is deeply connected to the ocean.

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time 😉

Portugal is magic! Such a beautiful place. It really has everything! I am going to relocate from Melbourne in Australia to Lisbon in March.
  • Congratulations Donna Renata, the best video about Portugal i ever seen. I am the son of the person you read the name. I was tourist in Portugal in august 2001. These places are in my heart and i hope one day to come back. In 2023 if i must choose a place to live i have no doubt, the Portugal. I visited Lisboa, Portimao, Faro and Algarve. It's a beautiful land like the Sicily, full of history, and the people are the more nice i met same at the scousers of Liverpool: in all the two places i was lost and without the nead to ask indication, old persons gone to help me. A people simple, polite, and with a great sobriety and dignity, they seems italians of the 60s.
