It may already be too late. But with California passing the updated Net energy metering (N.E.M.) 3.0. you MUST get solar approval by April 14th, 2023 to be grandfathered into the older NEM 2.0 with higher credit for unused solar energy. Watch the video to know my thoughts on Tesla Solar, whether a powerwall is worth it, as well as my regrets.

I just want to thank @tesla for watching my solar videos and changing their configurator every time after I publish a video haha. You can now purchase a POWERWALL ALONE!! Doesn't include the extra solar bundle discount but still qualifies for 30% tax credit 2022-23!

In Florida how much it comes for 10kw and do we have to get power wall?
  • Thanks for the video, as someone that just clicked on approval of the design, I am glad to hear that you are still ok with the decision of A. going solar and B. choosing Tesla. I think what a lot of folks oversee is that like with any large purchase there is a ton of research we as consumers should be doing. I upgraded to an additional panel on mine to get a 5.2KW system with a Powerwall. With that and no predicted changes in my consumption, not purchasing any electric vehicles anytime soon, I hope to minimize the SCE bill at the end of the year. Thank you for the education Chris!! Super helpful.
  • Supposedly, the LFP batteries allow for a lot more charge/discharge cycles, so if I was in California with the new plan, I'd most certainly run my house during the highest peak hours using my power walls and charge my car off peak. I'd also get as many panels and batteries as I possibly could fit/afford, because that gives you more options.
  • @dea7hr0w
Does loan option mean you rent or after payments are over these panels are yours ?
  • @LemurDaddy
I'm purchasing Tesla solar and will definitely use referral code.
  • @ZIlberbot
are you using LiFePo batteries ?! In that case is it reasonable to charge not to 100% but to 80 % ?!
  • @JoesPhenomenal
We are total power hogs over here I guess.... We ended up doing a 23Kw system and 2 powerwalls to make sure we were covered. We live in Southern Nevada where it's hot, have a 2800sqft house, and we have to charge 2 cars as well.... So we are chugging through 36000 kwh per year on average.

Nice video. Tesla is coming to do our site inspection March 14th. So hopefully everything move smoothly where we can move forward sign all necessary paperwork before Nem 3. We're in a time crunch. Ordered the 13.6 system which is more than enough energy because we plan to buy another ev. My big brother like you say always get a bigger system because you may want to add another car. That's what we plan to do. Thank you!
  • @tracle8334
I had 3 additional solar panel installed to my system from another solar installer. Maybe source someone that can add additional panel to your system before 4/14 ?
  • @captaingish
Hey Chris, thanks for the very apropos video as I was just googling Tesla solar. I’ve been on the fence for some time now but just don’t know if it’s worth it. I’m probably just a stone throw from you and I too charge an X and a Y at home and my SCE bill is around $200/mo. The Tesla charging stats shows that we use about $60-$90/mo worth of electricity for the 2 cars (we don’t drive a lot, for now). However, the rising cost of electricity is what is kinda nudging me to go solar. So, to all: should I?

I can't emphasize enough how important it is to properly size your system, especially NOW. For anyone hoping to get grandfathered into NEM 2, we're rapidly approaching the point where it might be too late. Sure, the deadline is April 14th, but the reality is that solar installers are being slammed and the practical deadline to get in on NEM 2 contract rates is about another week from now. So, mid March. The installers must submit the application, along with a line drawing of the system and contract to the utility. And it has to be accepted with no errors. Adding panels after NEM 3 takes effect is going to drastically limit how many more you can add and risks throwing you into NEM 3. As for me, I'm adding 7 more panels to future proof my system and the process is already well underway to insure I stay in NEM 2. Another great video, Chris, lots of good information. I determined that I'm using an average of 35kWh a day to charge my Tesla and may get another in a couple of years. I refer new Tesla owners to your channel all the time. Cheers.
  • @islandsnow
Do you need to do periodic cleaning of the panels? When I used to live in a place where it rained a lot my panels developed algae (or whatever it’s called) and my energy production from the panels went way down
  • @mmet6832
Would get it in an instant if only it was sold in Canada. 😢
  • @kusa1403
Hey Chris just used ur link to order a solar panels. Do you think 9kw system is good. This is for a single family home in north bay with 1 electric vehicle.
  • @dibeshj
Hi Chris, I am planning on getting Solar for my home. It’s 1800sq foot home. Last year used closed to 6000kwh, not using AC and very less EV charging. My concern is how much kWh is needed if I use AC with EV charging. Can you please give some idea.how many powerwall is needed and panels?
  • @chrisnguyen2760
thanks for informative video.   What kind of roof do you have? Is it clay tile roof? We also live in irvine and had signed up to get Tesla Solar panels.   The Tesla technician showed up to check out our home/roof and said we had "clay" tile roofs and that they could not install the Tesla Solar panels because of the clay tile.
