The murder trial for the former Franklin County sheriff's deputy who is charged with fatally shooting 23-year-old Casey Goodson Jr. more than three years ago is now underway.

Ex-deputy Jason Meade pleaded not guilty in December 2021 to murder and reckless homicide charges for the shooting death of Goodson and is now back in court after several delays.

Goodson's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Meade, but that is put on hold until the trial is completed. They are expected to be present in court every day of the trial.

Both the prosecution and the defense delivered opening statements on Wednesday.

Witness testimony got underway in court Thursday morning. The prosecution called Goodson's sister, Janae Jones, and his grandmother, Sharon Payne, to the stand.

Ok, I’m now further into this video and I’m starting to think the state is deliberately trying to throw this case. The fumbling, befuddled old guy leading the prosecution is deliberately slow and making a mess of things.

It’s not illegal to carry a weapon. You can’t assume everyone with a weapon is a threat when it’s legal to carry.

My god are these lawyers paid by the minute? They are so freaking slow. On the other hand, drawing this out must be torture for Jason Meade and I don’t have an issue with that

I wish state would have asked if car Casey was driving that day had tinted windows. If so would be impossible to see in. Is I noticed the Nissan sits lower to ground and truck was higher up. How did meade get a clear view

It all bolds down to do you believe this cop when he say Goodson Jr. pointed a gun at him twice without pulling the trigger once. And my answer is "I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BELIEVE THAT COP. Did you see the way this cop demonstrated how Goodson Jr. pointed the gun at him while Goodson Jr. was facing the other way with his back to the cop?🤔? and you gotta keep in mind Goodson s hand an arm full of bags in his left arm & hand and Goodson at the same time was opening the door with his keys in his right hand. But at the same time Goodson turned around to ONLY POINT, NOT SHOOT, BUT JUST TO ONLY POINT A GUN AT THIS COP???🤔?? Wayyy to far fetched for my belief. And Goodson Jr Pointed A GUN NOT ONCE BUT TWICE BUT NEVER ATTEMPTED TO PULL THE TRIGGER???? You have to be mentally slow and very naive to buy that one. For Real. Smdh.
