Is Seattle a walkable city? I attempt to answer this question and share some insight after a cup of coffee at Tailwind Cafe at Chophouse Row.

The walk begins at this Tailwind Cafe (inside a bicycle) shop in Capitol Hill at a little past 9 PM. I make my way north to Cal Anderson Park and while my initial plan was to walk to the northern end of Capitol Hill, I actually decide to go west on Olive Way.

I share some personal thoughts about Seattle’s walk score and walkability as well as safety. Capitol Hill has a very high walk score of over 90.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME…

My name is Dennis aka Lao Ocean (also aka Dr. Wtpho, but more about that later) and I'm a Lao American YouTuber based in Seattle, WA (since 1980). I do different things, including I’m a Creative Director for Seattle based Pom Foundation, a non profit group that strives to transmit, preserve and promote Lao culture through the arts.

My videos and vlogs consist of Seattle and Pacific Northwest content, food and product reviews, and travel. I drink way too much coffee and eat pho 20PHO7!

I try my best to make these “one take” videos and sometimes they are not always super polished as planned. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video and have a photastic weekend! ☕️🍜✌️
  • It’s very walkable. Lived in Ballard, first hill and magnolia. It’s not only walkable it’s beautiful walking. Other best walkable cities Chicago, SF, NY(best), Boston

That was an awesome video as usual Mr. Ocean. Thank you... 👍

In other American cities, car drivers won't let people cross at the crosswalk. School students go to the hospital every year from being hit. ....so yes Seattle is way more walkable than certain Midwest cities.

Love my neighborhood and I wish I would’ve bumped into you on this walk. The trash is a bummer, but I find that it’s generally cleaned up the same day. Seattle is definitely SAFE. There are parts that are weird or unsightly, but I have almost never felt UNSAFE and I walk or take transit everywhere.

I was there in 2022, loved Capital Hill! The walkability was one of my favorite things about the neighborhood.

I used to deliver a big paper route on Capitol Hill once a week for around 30 years. We stopped a few years ago right before CHAZ & COVID.
  • just returned from a visit to West Seattle last month, where I grew up, and walked everywhere, the Junction, Alki Beach, etc.. If you wanna go downtown, you need to park your car and walk around

My husband and I are seniors and will be staying 2 nights a few blocks from Pike Place. We love to get out and walk, as long as other people are around. We are a bit apprehensive.

Yes, that area is very walkable, you're in my old stomping grounds, I used to go to that Starbucks all the time, it is really sad that so much has happened in that neighborhood. I lived off of Bellevue Ave, at the apartments you walked by there, it was only a block to the City Market, and Crumble & Flake Bakery was just around the corner from me. I also used to walk to Lil Woody's. Good times.
