Originally an open-concept space, the arrival of interior designer Joyce Li and architect Mikolaj Scibisz’ daughter prompted them to transform their home into a flexible space that adapts to their changing needs. Striking double-layered orange curtains allow them to convert the apartment into one, two, or three rooms, ensuring privacy or openness as required. At the back of the living room a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling unit integrates an electronic Murphy bed over a sofa, a wardrobe on the sides, and ample storage above. The bathroom, enclosed in a mirrored box, reflects natural light, enhancing the apartment's airy feel. These thoughtful additions make the apartment versatile, functional, and perfect for a growing family.

  • i know it's subjective but i think the "before" layout is better, especially that it had mezzanine

I love open, flexible spaces but this one never grew on me! It ended up feeling like a student flat to me. I would have redesigned the original mezzanine in brighter wood and one 'open' side so it wouldnt block the light(which was given as a negative in the original layout). I think the space needs the mezzanine. At least they have lots of storage... (but no proper entrance way for coats, shoes, bags...). I see I'm not the only person to not be a fan of this one. Thank you for working so hard to bring us a new video every Thursday! I really look forward to them. Regards to all. XG Ire

The curtains remind me of a hospital. I actually really dislike this.

i love murphy bed and no architect myself, but i do think a 600sqft home could accommodate comfortably 2 bed 1 bath without the need to compromise other common areas (living, dining, kitchen, laundry).

First time that I prefer the appartement before loool

I would have to say that this would have to be the most unresolved spaces I have seen on this channel. The open nursery devalues the space and could have used sliding hard partitions instead of curtains. Overall use of colour is not cohesive. The mezzanine bedroom should have been kept or moved, and it's absence devalues the space overall. Noise transfer has to be a problem when working from home or studying.

The problem with the curtain is that it cannot block noise, especially when you have kids
  • Watching this channel, I am always left wondering if people... Don't like to lounge on the couch in their own home? Most of the apartments don't have a good seating area, anywhere to get cozy at the end of the day. Where do they sit and relax? I love the design of most of the places, but that part always makes me wonder if I'm an odd ball in wanting a comfortable, well designed couch to be the focal point of the home?

I'm finding this hard to watch - the layout and colourways are bonkers. And I cannot imagine having to download my bed each night.
  • Personally, I liked the 'Before' layout, since underneath the Mezzanine could be the nursery; maybe a modern structure would've done the job. However, there are good features in the 'New' layout, as the mirror outside the bathroom (expanding the space), accessing the bench on the window and thus bringing more light, and those red curtains ❤ Reminds me of those fancy Wedding Gowns stores.... I think on this one concept, it depends on your personal style, if they are happy with it, well then go for it 👍

changing dipers next to the kitchen seems a bit weird to me
  • The storage walls were great. I laughed out loud at the artwork on the floor - with a baby.

Although the curtains are thick and help with the sound, it's still not very conducive if the couple both work from home and need separate spaces to take calls without disturbing the other. Also, for some reason it still feels kind of cramped to me despite the open concept layout. The sofa doesn't look comfortable at all and the dining chairs look like they would give me back pain. Quite creative, and it's functional with all the hidden storage. Other than that, the space leaves much to be desired.
  • @MacoyTheDiaz
yikes. first time i disliked the after design. but their happiness is of their own :)
  • @tikitribe5715
Putting the nursery right next to the front door gives me the heebie-jeebies.😱
  • @emyms
No offence - the curtain rails remind me of the hospital curtains 🫠
  • @cardene84
The before layout and style were definitely much better compared to it now. In my opinion, it now looks distasteful.
  • @fukolombobby
this is the first time ive seen an apt get worse on this channel lmao why would you remove the mezzanine
  • @DorrySkog
Removing the mezzanine is such a waste. Even if I don't like the look of it I would try to work with it.
