Plane crash kills 2 in Chino

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating after a vintage plane crashed shortly after taking off in Chino early Saturday afternoon, killing two people. Rachel Menitoff reports for KTLA 5 News on June 16, 2024.

    Blancorlio saying a photo of take off shows the flaps DOWN and its a fowler flap so it creates drag not lift - hence the stall

    I am guessing, but it could be some power loss and stall spin on takeoff..

    Almost every time you hear about an old airplane with radial engines that go down right after takeoff, the NTSB finds that the pilots and ground crew, if they have ground crew, didn't do the proper preflight procedures. Every single time before a flight, they have to manually crank the propellers on these old radial engines. Oil tends to collect in the bottom cylinder after the engine has been sitting for awhile. This oil is incompressible so if the engine is started, expensive parts will get bent and the engine damaged. When these aircraft were used by the military, they followed that strict routine during every preflight. These civilian operations are too lax on procedures.
