“I hated who I was before” I literally can’t, I was going through a period of my life where I hated my personality and was really depressed, I swear this song literally speaks to me, I hated myself so much and now I love myself. I am in tears every time I hear this song

When first watching this, I thought it was a weird way to visually represent the meaning behind void, rebirth by escaping depression and anxiety and an old version of yourself, but when you rewatch it you notice all the little hidden details and symbolism that Melanie uses to express herself.  In the first scene, Crybaby, or Melanie, pushes herself out of a heart, and becomes a new creature, both showing the rebirth of Crybaby as a new creature, and how Melanie is letting go of an old version of herself. She then enters a door while looking behind her, making sure she's not being followed, and runs into the Void where she is chased by herself, or at least creatures that look similar to her. She then goes into another room where I can only assume she's watching herself incubate, and appears to be judging herself before she's even a new person. The creatures then hatch and just menacingly watch as she crawls away and falls into a new room full of bugs. In the room there is what looks like a window where you can see a bright star, and because we know Melanie likes to put tarot card references in her music videos, when you look up what the star means it says that upright it can mean faith and hope, but reversed can mean insecurity, discouragement, and faithlessness. The bugs in the room represent her insecurities and she takes a sword to one of the bugs and it flowers grow out of the bugs wound, which could represent the card being turned upright by letting go of insecurities and discouragement, and having faith and hope for a new beginning. She then falls through a tunnel, and somehow has a g-n, a sh00t5 herself and moths come out of her, and moths can represent change, transformation, endings, and death. She then falls out of a tower and the video end, but the tower is symbolic as well, the Tower Tarot Card upright represents disruption, change of life, and awakening, showing that she has completely left her old self behind, and is ready for a new life. That's just what I could interpret from the music video, but art is for the viewers to interpret however they'd like to, so I'd like to hear what other people think!

You can literally feel like you're there. The audio but also the visuals of the shaking and thumping was so emersive. Kinda like a visual illusion

I feel deeply for Melanie Martinez and the struggles she faces with anxiety. As a talented singer and artist, she constantly pours her heart into her work, only to be confronted with the immense pressures and challenges of her career. It's disheartening to see someone so creative and passionate battling such personal hardships. Melanie’s openness about her anxiety highlights the often unseen battles many artists endure, and it makes me admire her resilience even more. I sincerely hope she finds the support and peace she needs to continue sharing her incredible talent with the world.

The way she displayed, hating yourself, insecurity, SH, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, anxiety, and depression all in one music video is beautiful and so true

It's different than the old ones but it feels alive. She's moving, dancing, the camera is taking rounds, the colors, the effects, the Flowers, everything.. This sweet creature is alive. ❤️🌹

Her portrayal of anxiety, trapped and overthinking, resonates profoundly. Admirable representation. Love her.

i love how in this video, she portrayed the feeling of anxiety. especially the parts when there was a giant eye behind her, it showed the feeling of being judged and watched in my opinion. also, the part where there are many of herself or at least creatures that look like her chasing her. For me, it kind of shows the feeling of being scared of embarrassment, or being judged and being paranoid that people are judging you. i can definitely sometimes relate to this song and the video how i saw it. thank you melanie for being such an inspiration and idol to me <3

I love how expressive her body language is in this. It might look silly,but it's very mesmerising and helpful,since you cant exactly tell what they're feeling based on her facial expression (because of the mask).

“Tangled in my own intestines” to me that sounds like when someone who is suicidal feels unsafe with themeselves and feels like they are stuck in the mindset of wanting to commit.
