I was allowed to stay home that day. My mom was a secretary and my dad was an engineer on the challenger, designed part if the firewall behind the crew cabin. My mom called me shortly after and said she wouldn't be home till late, I could hear screaming and crying in the background. My dad was never the same and retired a few years after. So sad for everyone.

I watch you all the time and I have an 8 and 18 year old son. Like most teenagers he doesn’t spend a lot of time watching tv with me. He watches your videos with me. He said you are “such a pretty, smart, funny and talented woman”. He says he could listen to you tell stories about paint drying because you make everything so interesting . So thank you for making videos that give me more time with my son! ❤

My mom watched this in her class at school. She remembers the excitement for the launch turned into stunned horror. The teachers turning off the television and trying to comfort and distract the students… it always stuck with her, even as an adult
  • My father was one of the engineers on the space Shuttle program. He was one of the ones who recommended scrubbing the l launch. The next 2 years were depressing as a kid. Most of my friends had to move away due to job closures at cape. We were outside to see the disaster. As millions watched on TV. We saw and heard it live. For months we got to see parts and pieces wash up at Jetty Park and area beaches closing the areas each time it happened. And for those who have been told they found all of the crew in the cockpit area, tell my why they would find body parts washing up from time to time. All of the pieces are buried on pad 31 with the remains of the Apollo I

Did you know they also wanted to send Big Bird up there on the Challenger as well to get more little kids into science. But the actor who played Big Bird couldn't do it or wouldn't (I can't remember). Could you imagine the trauma inflicted on preschool kids if they watched Big Bird die!!!! They were already traumatized by seeing the shuttle break up with a teacher.
  • This is the earliest I’ve ever been to one of her videos. Hello Bailey, you are so amazing.

I went to Christa McAuliffe Academy it's a middle school based on space, school made sure that we were well informed about Christa

I was watching this on tv when it happened. So sad. I’ll never forget!!
  • Speaking of the space race, bless the soul of Vladimir Komarov (the man who fell from space). The USSR knew the mission was too dangerous (as did he) but they chose to send him anyway. He refused to back out of the mission because his best friend would've went in his place. A true hero.

I was 9 and our kitty had been hit by a car the day before so my mom let me stay home and I remember watching it thinking the explosion was just the boosters separating from the spaceship because we had leaned in school the they detach when they launch and lose fuel. Seeing my Mom’s face made me know that it was not normal and she just looked at my Dad and started crying.
  • I'll never forget this, my mother father and I were all home sick and just couldn't believe what happened 💔💔💔💔💔💔

I watched it at lunch at my sister’s house . Driving back to School I was crying and so shocked .
  • I was in elementary school and we were all in the library watching with amazement until… as children we watched America’s Teacher pass on live national TV!! It was one of the saddest days..

I remember sitting in my 3rd grade classroom watching it on TV. Our class wrote a poem about it that got published in a book.
  • I remember when I started watching your videos and you had about 2 million subscribers, it’s amazing to see how far you’ve come, you’re so deserving of all your success, definitely my favourite content creator ❤☺️
  • My mom was a satellite engineer at this time. She use to have to travel to launches and wasn’t even allowed to tell us about it but I remember her telling me about this as a kid. It was so effing tragic. I specifically remember the fact there was a teacher in there and how her students were watching. My mom is so autistic like maybe she shouldn’t have told me cause I couldn’t stop replaying stuff in my mind from simply hearing about things.

I was in high school when this happened. It was so shocking and sad!
