definitely would not recommend to clean hot surface ignitor.

No need to clean the ignitor, it is a HSI it is ceramic and really easy to break. You should not remove it unless it is already broken. Yes, you should clean the flame sensor.

The easiest way to tell why your furnace is not working is to look at the lights on the motherboard and see what they are doing and then look at the inside of the cover and see what the troubleshooting guide says.

It's smart to have on hand a spare ignitor and flame sensor. Since those are the most common to fail. ty
