Board members of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority held a press conference Thursday morning to discuss a rash of high-profile crimes across the Metro bus and train lines and announce plans to increase law enforcement presence throughout the system.

The board, which is comprised of local elected officials including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, were critical of the presence — or lack thereof — of law enforcement personnel contracted to provide safety resources to riders.

Bass, who serves as chair of the Metro board, said she directed an "immediate surge" of law enforcement personnel on Metro buses, trains and station to address the concerns of drivers and passengers.

  • I often see people disregarding the Metro rules. They play their radios loudly, eat and leave their trash behind, and many don't even bother to pay for their ride. These actions not only make our commutes unpleasant but also create an environment that emboldens more serious criminal behavior. When no one enforces the "small rules," who will stop the violent crimes?
  • Someone got shot in Commerce in an MTA bus just shortly after this meeting

I rode the red line metro for two years. The problem is the lack of security at the turnstiles that no one pays at. If people actually paid to ride there would 100% be way less crime on the metro

Those crazy bums shouldn’t even be making it past the entrance down to the subway to begin with. You can just tell when someone is just a dirty crazy bum with no money and is just there to cause chaos for no reason.
  • Of course she doesn't know it's not safe i promise she's never stepped foot on a bus or metro train in at least 20 years probably longer. Is impeachment possible? This lady is turning LA into mad max a little more everyday.
  • @Blue2crows
Defund the police VS. protect the citizens. Karen Bass the democrat joke.
  • @Joe-pc3hs
Metro was responsible for taking Sherrifs off the line.

Not enough security to cover each and every bus and train.
  • Any critics should be required to ride the metro with zero security for a couple of months. They survive, we’ll hear them out 😂
  • Weren't we told a few years ago that the presence of police caused problems, hence, defunding?

Oh, The Olympic Games 2028 will be interesting…

Didn’t these stupid metro “leaders” replace the police officers with useless “metro ambassadors” ? 😆
  • When I see the cops at the Metro stations, they don't seem very enthusiastic about "thier job". It seems to me that they'd rather be on the STREETS stopping cars and passing out TRAFFIC TICKETS. They look to me like a "lost bunch" with not a care in the world for that job we're PAYING them for. WHO is going to PAY their salaries; not the Metro! I don't see HOW Metro can AFFORD to pay the cops when virtually NOBODY is paying their fares.
  • Metro Transit is extremely dangerous city council LosAngeles is endangering the public and is severely irresponsible.
  • I got beat up took my back pack my vault month ago at north Hollywood orange line station called 911 police didn’t show up till hour later they took my swollen up face pics and from there on nothing happened

I blame the Mayor, the District Attorney, and the Governor. Instead of protecting citizens and maintaining a peaceful and safe society, they are ignorantly releasing chaos onto our streets.
  • Thank your City Leadership for the lack of safety .This is what DEI hiring practices look like. Bass and many others are not qualified to handle the tasks they are assigned.
