New spring candle scents! wildrootscafeco.com/collectio...
Grab one of our hand poured candles while they last: Limited supplies- family made

This week we focus on making a change to the original house design plans by adding a full loft to Ellie's bedroom. The floor joists that we temporarily installed with the intention of only being a platform to raise the ridge beam and rafters, will now need to be permanently installed. High wind gusts kick up as we lay the subfloor and little do we know, those high winds are causing downed trees in our little town resulting in sparks flying from powerlines and wildfires kicking up. Before long our county and others around us are ablaze with fire. Local volunteer fire departments are overwhelmed and call in the community to help.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and the buiness/work related side of our life can be found on our secondary channel "Josh and Erin- The After Show". Here you will see us renovating our Cafe, opening/operating the Cafe with goods from our farm, building/furnishing/running our short term rentals, finding/operating our other real estate investments and more. • I'm not afraid to admit that watching people come together brought tears to my eyes. THIS THIS THIS is what America is all about. We are about love, trust, understanding and UNITY!!! I pray this isn't what it takes to reunite us as a nation, but, if it is, then so be it. God bless America and those who are willing to fight for its survival. Thank you, all. Love from Massachusetts.
  • There is nothing more beautiful than a community coming together to stave off a disaster and keep everyone safe. God Bless fire departments across America that go the extra mile to allow us to peacefully sleep at night knowing they are on the job. This was a great example of West Virginia pride and community. Job well done by all.
  • @dfusit
Awesome job to the community for helping out. Ellie to the rescue snuggling with the baby lamb, her love of animals is unmatched.
  • @kaity4903
Volunteer Fire Departments just show up. They are also working full time jobs on top of volunteering. The communities help them so much. Thanks for helping from a wife of a Volunteer Fireman.
  • @timwoods603
I am not surprised at the volunteers who help not only their community but others. As a native West Virginian I've seen this all my life.
  • @0Hillbilly
One thing volunteer departments across the country need is volunteers. I served as a volunteer firefighter for many years. The one thing we always need was and still is people. If you have the time and desire, please volunteer. Training is provided. It's a wonderful feeling to help your community.
  • @Twinpeeks989
I started watching you all in the very beginning, it warms my heart how much you both are willing to step in and offer resources to your local community.
  • @vorovee3
Dear Erin & Josh, I've said this before & I'm saying it again..Thank you both soooo much for taking us all along on you and your family's journey! What a wonderful adventure through true life without the overly forced drama that's brought to us each day. All the hatred & negativity being funneled to us is hard to bear on such a regular basis. Your kindness, thoughtfulness, hard work, family bonding and love is just pure joy! I'm sure the boys and especially Ellie will grow up to be outstanding adults and I wish you and all your extended Youtube family nothing but Peace & Love...Michael V., S. Florida.....
  • I was reading on WBOY that the one fire is 100% contained. The one burned over 3,600 acres & containment is unknown. The governor has declared a state of emergency in several counties. Hopefully more rain on the way to us this week. Thank you so much for the help you have provided to our fellow West Virginia families.
  • This why small towns continue to survive, they stand together no matter their differences they stand together when things go down. You two continue to amaze with investing in your community.
  • @carolfuchs2774
We lost a home to wildfire in Oregon in 2002. But because of people like you they were able to save hundreds of more houses, barns, and outbuildings. We now have a dedicated fire department but still need the volunteers to supplement. The scary part is that it is early Spring and not "fire season"!!! What will happen in the heat of the summer?
  • @makeitallrite11
Yes, this is WV we show up, our state is one of the only states that take care of our own. Snow storms, fires or floods, we show up, this is our home. Bless all the folks that fight for our home.
  • @AngelBluff
What a wonderful example of the hearts and minds of what it means to live in rural America. Well done Hardy County! Great job on another video Erin!!
  • @ember2874
Erin, I'm currently bottle feeding a tiny baby goat. She's precious! Ellie is so loving, I just adore her.😘❤🤗
  • @KAMB_n_Jinx
The fire coordinator sounded so relieved when you told him what equipment you could supply. Community is so important in emergencies. You certainly stepped up.
  • @carlapierle8623
I was in tears watching the beginning of this video, and not knowing what the result was, praying so hard for rain and for the safety of everyone coming together to help in this fight. Reading the words at the end of this video I burst out in even more tears, seeing God answered those prayers. God Bless America and those who love Her!!!
  • JOSH AND ERIN. THANK YOU FOR DONATING WHAT YOU DID. I have been so busy with momma I didn't realize what was going on back there. My heart is broken watching my mountains burn. You're right. I had never known what community was until I lived up there. People come together to help each other. Spaghetti dinners. Fund raisers etc. Mom and I were to go to baker Wednesday for appts. People can't believe I still run to baker to see Dr Smith but she's wonderful. Again thank you for helping to save the mountains I love and miss.
  • @ginaallen3797
One word to describe y'all, the farm, the community is Resilient. Thankful that you survived another epic event. Peace Out.
