Taxi driver and father of four, Ivan Skyba, was one of a group of Ukrainian men defending their suburban street near Kyiv at the start of the war.

He narrowly avoided death after being captured with his comrades by Russian soldiers as they advanced on Ukraine’s capital.

Along with eight of his fellow captives he was led to a courtyard where Russian soldiers opened fire in a cold-blooded execution. The other eight men were shot dead in an atrocity that prosecutors are treating as a war crime.

Somehow though, Ivan Skyba survived by playing dead.

These were not the only people they executed. The only reason we know about this group is because one person survived to tell about it.

A sad and painful thing to watch. It is important to see, because it brings the reality of this war to our consciousness.
  • "I didn't breath, i didn't move, at the same time i was expecting a shot." That was really really scary. And Just knowing that you will be led to execution was really terrifying, this is unbelievable, GOD Bless you Brother.

How horrific. I never thought I’d see the day in my lifetime when such brutality is taking place on the European continent. We were warned of Putin and Russia but never took the threats and stories seriously. But we know now what cruelty he and his army are capable of.

  • After the last 10 years I refuse to believe a single word that comes out of these people's mouths.
  • Support from a Syrian. It's a miracle this man survived same as it's a miracle I did.
  • Can't imagine how that man felt expecting another shot. You know that feeling like you're about to get hit by something? RIP.
  • If this is how brutal the crimes we know about are, it’s hard to imagine the ones we don’t know.

As a parent i feel for the single mums and kids that have to go through life without their husbands and fathers, truly sad and unforgivable to let this happen in this day and age for nothing but ego and power

"The Russian soldiers are joking and in a jolly mood". That during a massacre? I can't imagine what kind of parents and society can raise such monsters.
