This series was originally started in 2015 before anyone knew who Zamasu was, and I address the Piccolo stretchy arms minutes later. Feel free to comment, but I’m going to think you’re a silly person.

To celebrate the 4 year anniversary of DBU, join us as we marathon the series that got it all started!

  • Team four star has left such an impact on me I forgot the wedding between Yajirobe and Korin wasn’t cannon

super android 13 can't happen because goten wouldn't have been able to be born

The most egregious thing about the old Broly movie is that Cell didn't detect the massive ki signature Broly was giving off and immediately throw hands.

Didn't Toriyama say he thought of the movies as being in different dimensions/timelines? I don't think they were ever meant to be part of the canonical lore, but this is definitely an interesting breakdown either way and well researched
  • Theory: Trunks screwed up and accidentally created alternate timelines where the non canon movies happens

The three iconic symbols of the DBZ movie timeline: 1. Icarus 2. Picnics and camping trips 3. Waterfalls

Fun fact: Fusion reborn was written to take place after the buu saga, but since the saga wasn't finished yet, the writers didn't know how it would end so they guessed. Obviously, they couldn't predict everything and got a lot wrong

Why I personally believe the bojack movie can be canon: 1) One of the options you presented occured 2) Piccolo has a clothes beam, and he had a red belt in super hero, which is canon 3) The sword was with vegeta and Bulma meaning they probably fixed it for him and were waiting to give it back to him. Nailed it.

Man, cells quite a gentleman waiting like 3 movies for them to come to the tournament lol
  • @YoMamaBih
I'm sure someone mentioned this, but another reason Broly can't happen is because Goku and Gohan pledged to stay in Super Saiyan until the Cell Games.

I love how the Saibamen feel like your average non-canon minion created for a random DBZ game from 20 years ago
  • @BigRichG
Wow, I love this breakdown so much, I never considered that some of the movies may just be alternate timelines, awesome man!

"Along with the trend of goku forgetting that he is a supersayan" To be fair, he does tend to forget it even in the canon
  • @epicmineman2847
For the Broly one, I'd like to take TFS' interpretation of: Trunks: "What about Cell?!" Vegeta: "Fuck 'em."

I suppose it’s worth noting that the “false super Saiyan” from Lord Slug was supposed to be actual super Saiyan. It’s just that the movie was released before the design for SSJ was finalised. The reason Goku is blond in SSJ is because the manga is in black and white and making Goku’s hair white made the inking process much easier. But it’s entirely possible that Goku’s hair was intended to stay black which is what the animators for Lord Slug went with.
  • I feel like Turles and Cooler can come back to canon. Turles can be a Saiyan scientist that was commonly mistaken for Bardock (a fun nod to Bardock’s scientist origin) who engineered a Saiyan fruit that boosted the user’s strength, but wasn’t powerful enough and was ridiculed for it. Have him be exiled or off-world like the others and he eventually perfected the fruit and became a pirate. Cooler can just be Freiza’s brother or a member of his race, and act like a slightly better version. Make him cool and calm that opposes his brother for what he’s done, then kill him off and make metal cooler.

  • I think Broly's motivation would be a lot better if Turles was the one who stabbed Broly
  • @covereye5731
The real problem with Cooler's Revenge is that Cooler hears of Freeza's death and wants to avenge him, but not his father at all who would be killed by Trunks at this point.

It's funny, because all of these movies came out at times where they "could" potentially make sense, but are essentially immediately retconned by the plot moving too quickly/in a different direction until Bojack, when Toriyama finally did a seven-year timeskip, giving Bojack some room to breathe.
