Base Defence | Devlog #10 | I'm Pulling Out The Big Guns

Base Defence(Game) is a 2D tower defence game similar to Plants Vs Zombies.
Got quite a lot done for this update including a new Background, a New defence Unit, Added Unlocked Units Prompt, I redid the Tutorial and I added Comic bubbles to mimic effects.   • Changed things up again with this video. I resisted the urge to add any memes and kept the video as chilled as possible. Let me know what you prefer videos with Humour and memes or chilled like this video.   • Loving the new background/art! The little grass sway animation is a nice touch. I like the idea of enemies coming out of bushes too. The cartoon comic bubbles are very unique as well and I think they look cool! Good work!

    I stand by my previous comments: the non-black-lines (the one in this video) grid looks better to me! The background fits so well in my opinion, great job dude! Also the speech bubble instead of the particle systems is really original ;) I like it!

    I love the more subtle look of the grid more! It doesn't call too much attention to itself and isn't too distracting! Great progress on the game😁
  • Subtle outlines make the important objects pop up more than the background, which is good. You usually want the background to be less noticable than the main stuff. Also, you could make them turn black as soon as the player tries to place something, I think that should look good! Btw, I've just realized that YouTube thinks this is Plants vs. Zombies (in the description) xD

    Good job on the new baackground! I personally like the grid with the lighter colors more than the one with the black lines :)

    Great idea to have the grid with a smooth outline! It makes it look very clean and also will help the player a lot!

  • Nice progress! The grid is looking much better IMO. I don't think that comic bubbles should appear for something that's happening too frequently like soldier shooting bullets. In that case, particles (or some star-like image) would be good enough. Otherwise, it can get annoying real fast and it also disturbs the visibility (or what to look at, you know). However, for bigger and comparatively rare explosions like dynamite ones, comic bubbles should appear.

    Personally I would vote for the more subtle look, the grid is still distinct, but blended. However, perhaps for the colour blind, and a high contrast choice which includes the dark outlines for accessibility.

    Nice work! :D I think the faded lines are much better imo, they blend in with the tiles quite well! I also think maybe in the forest, you could draw some eyes that start at the left hand side and move to the right, to look like the enemies are in the forest? :D

    I really dig this art style, it looks amazing, and everything else about the game too! My only complaint at the moment is with the font, which can be a bit hard to read (specially the green text on black background in the menus) and I imagine would be pretty inaccessible to some people, so you should probably at least give the option of using a tidier font. Regardless, this game is turning out great and I can't wait to see more!
