For this weeks teardown I wanted to find the most blown up and destroyed engine I could, regardless of what it was. This 2.0L Duratec Focus engine was a perfect candidate. I try to maintain an imbalanced balance of destruction on the channel and it had been too long since we tore down something really bad. This engine did not disappoint!

My name is Eric and I own and run a full service auto salvage business called Importapart located in the Saint Louis MO area. Part of our model is dismantling and selling parts from rare and niche market engines. I don't build or rebuild engines, we simply supply hard parts to those that do!
Want to see a particular engine torn down? I may have already done one! No really, check out my other videos for the engine you'd like to see! I've made over 70 other teardowns from a Cummins to an LS7, and from Rotary to Ram Ecodiesels. You can expect a new teardown every week!

As always I appreciate all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism.
What will I tear apart next week? Just wait and see!

  • Was watching before bed with my 4 year old daughter and when you went to cut the chain and sparks flew she called out ‘Put the bucket back on your head!’ On a side note thanks for keeping your videos where my kiddos can watch with me.

This may be your best effort yet. Especially the “Ring... Ring... Ring...” You totally read my mind on that one.

Both of my sisters had Focus' with this engine. The added inspection port NFT can be unlocked after 100k miles for select users. In this case both opted to redeem said tokens. 💯👍

"But first! Dipstick." Fighting stance! I can tell you were having way to much fun with this engine teardown!
  • Engine detonations like this one are really hard on a vehicle's sound system. As the engine starts to eat itself the radio has to be turned up louder and louder to cover up the racket that invariably accompanies neglect and the realization that you will soon be walking. Cool teardown.
  • Went and found an engine just for us viewers. I feel privileged. Lol...

The spinning pf the oil pump and the "tune" that it played, was more than I could handle. Excellent..!

I love that engine. I have an 05 focus that I maintained religiously all the way to 470,000 miles. Never had one single major failure other than a failed water pump, easy fix. That car outlasted me. I still have it, just don't drive it anymore since I got slightly sandwiched at a red light.

Currently have a Focus with this engine. 208k on it and not a single thing wrong mechanically. Maintenance people, it pays off!

That was incredible! This is what we come here for! Never in my 66 years of life have I heard an engine gargle, until tonight, and of course it happened on "I do cars" Eric, you wondered about all the metal you found in the top end getting through the oil filter. I have a feeling that filter was so old that it had been bypassing for ages. That's just another part of the lack of care cheap cars get. Thanks Eric!

I remember years ago a friend thought he “hurt his engine” and asked me to listen to it. It ran for under ten seconds before I got him to shut it down and asked him if he’d installed a wireless connecting rod. Cause I could heat the unmistakable sound of connecting rod aggressively introducing itself to cylinder liner.
  • Yes. Destruction strikes again. Don't stop doing these tear downs, they are the highlight of my Saturday evenings. And the safety tote makes another appearance. Absolutely hilarious. I do wish that you had torn open the oil filter though

Man as a former Duratec owner that hurts to look at. Had the 3.0 and it was a nice engine, zero complaints with it.
  • So , basically someone was " focus"ed with tearing up the engine 👍 , by the way , that wasn't oil around the plugs , that was spark plug fluid 😜
  • @DashPadGames
This is very interesting to watch!! Considering I own an 06 Focus that has 220k miles. It runs like new! It’s kind crazy to see a duratec in such bad condition. These engines are very solid. It takes a LOT of neglect to get that far.

For the first time, Eric torn down a engine from a car I actually owned at one time ('07 Focus). That was a whole Thanksgiving feast sitting in the oil pan with the absolute destruction the engine went though.
  • "It couldn't have been low on oil, the oil light didn't come on until right before the explosion", said a guy at work right before he got fired. The mechanic laughed and said " These aren't supposed to have dry sump lubrication "😁
  • @mrturner69
these are actually pretty good engines when cared for and decent in the cars they came in. my dad had one with a stick shift and it drove well.
  • @zeadlots
Props for the gurgling noises and shooting oil on the floor. Love it
  • @tdrewman
That engine is pretty much bullet proof. This is one of the best engines Ford made.. All you have to do is change the oil regularly. I drove my Focus for 160K before I traded it in.. It ran great from start to the day I traded it in 11 years later. Basic oil changes is all I did other than spark plugs and coils after I had to change the valve cover gaskets.
