Oakmont is proof that you don’t need a 7,800 yard golf course to make it tough for the pros. This course is about 7,200 yards tops, and has five par 4s that are less than 400 yards. It’s a classic test of golf in which day in and day out, the defense is narrow fairways, penal rough, and firm, fast greens. And in the case of Oakmont, the greens are incredibly tough, revered by many as the toughest greens anywhere, even more difficult than Augusta.

Best things about Cabrera is his feel for the game and the swiftness with which he plays. No messing around.

Angel always looked like he'd be comfortable at a city course on a Tuesday afternoon with a rented cooler in his cart. One of my favorites.

I had the fun and honor to work as a hole marshall that week. I was mostly on #13, but sometimes they needed help on #15. I didn't care where they put me, I was happy to be out there. I didn't miss a day, even the practice rounds.

My dad and I spent a lot of time that weekend watching right of the green on 15. We saw the Cabrera shot live and it was by far the shot of the tourney.

To sync the audio just open this video in another tab and spend 75 minutes trying to match the two videos together

They really do listen to the fans. We asked for this a week ago and they came with it! Good on ya USGA!

26:44 imagine being so good at golf that this shot would piss you off. He literally got a great bounce but he didn’t care because he knew he hit it dangerously left.
  • Those greens were rocks. Woods on 17th, great bunker shot but no spin out of the bunker. Again on 18, lands 10 ft low from hole, rolls out to 40 ft. Great shots both of them and neither of them stopped.

Please post all four rounds of coverage for this

I watched the 1994 Classic finish just before this. Wow, how many trees did they remove around those last 4 holes. At my Course they are desperate to get the trees to grow, but here they just took them away. 18 and 15 looks like two different holes from then as all the trees between them have gone.

I would love to play there. Not sure I'd want to play there every Saturday.

Good thing the mock turtle look didn’t last long. Went the way of the sansabelt slacks and the Johnny Miller collection from Sears.
