in this video I'm going to show all you old school DJs how to properly use your CDJ-3000s so you all stop sounding like shoes in a dryer when you mix.

I do like using them manually tho. From the designers themselves, the option to play anyway you prefer is there so it can fit anyone’s specific style. But I do draw the line with folks who use DVS timecode on CDJs or put the CDJs in battle style (it happens more often than you think).

"There's no fooling around." Hrm...pretty sure that's called "dj'ing" hahaha! Okay okay, I get it. I feel like that's why so many people are dj'ing now, it's super duper accessible, and there's no room for "shoes in a dryer". In a way, I kind of miss being at a party, and hearing the DJ fix something that's slightly off; takes real skill and finesse. I've been dj'ing for 24 years and I'm going to continue to kill that cue button, just to spite you. ;)

This obviously only applies if you’re using sync but if you’re a more skilled DJ and you’re timing is good than the old school way is the way to go.

I respect you steve..but lemme play like I still have my 1200s...makes me feel comfortable. Even on my prime 4..hahaha

And this is why DJing is nothing more then just play button 💁🏻‍♂️ you can sync everthing and sit and go on yout phone 🤷🏻‍♂️
  • @cconnerolson
Telling DJs they have to use sync? That is a hot take! LOL

As an old school dog. I have to agree 100% Use the appropriate gear for the job you want vinyl? Use technics sl1200 any version Will do! You want to scratch digital files use the technics with Phase and boom you rocking! You want to use cdj tables use the denon sc6000m Last but not least use the cdj 3000 if you are rich! Also the New micro switches are not as good as like on the cdj 1000 mk2/3 and break easy! New gear means cheap Me on my end i Will sell everything but my analog stuff, stick to the Basics and use phase with the tech's and some fx and Thats that.

i dont use my cue that way, i have always preferred to tap next to the play button with a finger over play. I get what you're saying about not needing to do it at all because of sync but not everyone uses sync. I dont use it because i prefer to manually mix so to keep my timing, i tap the deck next to the play button. Caveat: in not against sync not am i one of those NO SYNC FOR DJ's morons, i just have a preference of playing
  • This is all well and good, but i like a bit of pressure when i am djing, so that i feel i am doing something.. lol. but point taken. this is why i manually cue my tracks, unless i have to do some prepared set, which most of the time i dont. otherwise i think i will be bored.
  • All good, unless recordbox says: "Hey Dude, let's put the Beatmarkers somewhere different, because there is a pre-kick before the Drop" and you cannot even change it right in the Software and you're not being able to Beatmatch then. Or your network-cable says "Bye" and there is no Sync anymore. Imagine beeing in a Club without the newest CDJs or doesn't have linked ones. These are the ways fake Djs got exposed in the past... I tend to have control over my Set and work for the art i'm presenting.

I’m divided on this. Beatmatching is both a skill and enjoyable. I think there’s still a place for DJs wanting to do this and still enjoy all the other benefits the new tech has to offer. I also can see that DJ skills have shifted to other areas like playing with performance pads and effects. Maybe Pioneer should have put a big red light on the back to show the crowd which style of DJ we’re listening to so that we can appreciate the performance based on the method used 😂 Track selection is everything though and that’s really what will get me coming away from a set rating it or not. Wait til they add the AI button which selects and plays tracks for you, I’m calling it now!
  • Serious? We are supposed to use SYNC now? No way... I used my CDJs for many years using the CUE to drop in and never destroyed it. It's not only to drop in, it is also to decide quickly when I drop in. If I do so with SYNC and the Start-Button like you do it, the track is running and I would have to stop and turn back... No thanks. I think there is a good reason, that pioneer and all other players still have this button 😉
