  • My recommendation to learn Power BI on any level: Pick a real life need that you want to solve with your report. Something that helps you with your business, or e.g. tracking your health and fitness goal. Or pick a Power BI challange. Focus more on answering business questions than on skills. This gives you instant feedback on how mature and applicable your skills actually are. Stay persistent and you will learn the skills on the way. Wirhout an idea where to apply something like YTD the DAX concepts will remain hard to learn abstract concepts.

I can do the basics alright which is creating certain queries or dax. But where I fall down is in: 1) when there are multiple data sources, I don’t know how to structure my database and relationships. So I end up creating lots of merge tables and thus the report gets slow. 2) I can’t do complicated dax, so to get around it, I create columns in power queries. I wish I had somebody in my team who I could learn from. I’m the only reporting analyst in my team. I sometimes feel like a fraud, lol. But the manager is happy with what I’ve made. In the backend, it’s me spinning plates like a monkey. Lol
