This Red Inker is about Ireland’s World Cup team, and for that, we get on one of the best Irish writers, Nathan Johns. We speak about going from a Rugby professional to cricket, Lorcan Tucker’s funk, Harry Tector, the long batting order, bowling and facing spin, their biggest issue at the death, how the contract situation might cause issues and their best and worst case scenarios.

Jeff Wilson was a legendary All Black who played ODI cricket either side of his international rugby career, with a gap of 11 years.

2:34 - "I can't think of that many cricketers who played professional rugby". Most famous is Jeff Wilson who was a great All Black who also played ODIs for New Zealand. It is rare in the 21st century but also Neil Doak played for Ireland at cricket in the 90s and for Ulster in rugby in the 00s (Alan Lewis was a former Irish international cricketer turned professional rugby referee). Aaron Shingler played for Glamorgan and England U19 in 2005-07 before turning to rugby and winning 27 caps for Wales. Most though in modern era only play both to age grade level. Former All Black Kieran Read played for NZ age grade teams at cricket. Herschelle Gibbs & AB de Villiers were both talented rugby players. Rory Hamilton-Brown got an offer to play pro for Harlequins in rugby or Surrey at cricket. Probably many more cases like that given upper class schools in England and South Africa play both.

It'll probably be all about the Pakistan game for Ireland. They'll probably lose to Indian but should still comfortably beat USA and Canada
