Matt Zigler is the author of a new book for educators titled "3 Modes of Making." He talks about imitation, modification and innovation as three different modes of project development, each of which develop different maker skills. Matt is an artist and educator who has been running the makerspace at Bullis, an independent school in the DC area. He brings a background in art and creative practice to the makerspace and his school. it's not that every student is going to be an artist but every student should develop a creative practice, regardless of subject or area of interest.

When I look back to where my "Making" started. This is going to sound crazy but at age 5, I took apart my dads favorite toy snowmobile that wouldn't work. I was not supposed to be touching it... lol, I took it apart and found a wire that had disconnected. I stripped the wire and reconnected it, not having a clue what I was doing. I replaced the batteries, and it worked! I put it back on my Dads dresser. When he got home from work, I asked him if I could play with it, and he told me it was broken. I told him I replaced the batteries, and it worked. He said NO IT DOESN'T WORK! I picked it up and turned it on. The shock on his face was priceless, lol! From there I never stopped fixing things. That was my start.

What I think is difficult in the education system is to make it a hyper personalized experience for students. Here we are talking about each student getting the opportunity to work on areas of their interest, it looks difficult / challenging in routine education set up. But makerspaces give opportunities to students. In India , students are so busy to think outside their routine.
