$9000... yea I don't think so. Building a Outdoor Sofa/Loveseat set on a budget. With Oversized Outdoor Furniture trending this summer season, the prices for these things have gone out the roof. Let me teach you how I built this entire $9,000 oversized sofa set for less than $500.

Another great thing about building your own set is you can choose how many pieces that you want to build and you have the freedom to mix and match. Want a sofa and two chairs (like my wife did), a outdoor loveseat and a chair, or build the Outdoor sofa, loveseat and a chair! The possibilities are endless!

This customizable DIY Outdoor Patio Furniture set could also mean huge profits for your woodworking business or side hustle. You know I don't like to build things that you can just get anywhere... and since oversized furniture is hot... let's take it to the outdoors!

10 years ago, I built a outdoor sofa for $600. Lounges on both ends, adjustable back rests, and cushions. Made it out of ceder 2x4s and 1x6s, simple 90 degree cuts and few hinges. The day I was finishing it up in the garage, a neighbor walked by and offered to buy it, I sold it for $2000 and built another one for myself.
  • No school like old school. Nice to see I'm not the only one with such high tech design hardware. Hands down my favorite YouTube channel!
  • Love how you break this stuff down and you show mistakes so we can learn from them also and shows you are human. Keep up the great work
  • @dnikkithebest
I love that you still actually do builds on your channel. A lot of other channels have moved towards just reviewing tools and things instead of building. Im newbie, so I appreciate having tutorials to look at
  • @NancyHafler
Many years ago(1980s) my husband made furniture similar to that, and I made the cushions. Thanks for inspiring me! I may try it again😊

This set looks great I might have to build a set especially once I show my wife this video. The one thing I think I might add is s pair of support legs in the middle of the sofa to deal with the flex I know will happen with my kids on it lol.
  • @MyGrowthRings
Matthew, I'd live to see the "Big and Tall" version of these as a follow-up. Perhaps with the 2x stock you mentioned, and the pocket screw connecting the bottom look like they would have a LOUD response to me sitting down! Great vid as always.
  • Last year, I was the maintenance guy for an adolescent boys drug and alcohol rehab facility. Teenage boys tear up everything, and my boss was tired of buying 8 new couches every year. So I built 8 "couches" very similar to your design. They were built for strength, so I used 2x4 and 2x6 for everything. And I built them to fit the abundance of couch cushions we had left from current and old couches. Also, I cut all the pieces and then stained all the pieces before assembly. I did take pictures of the first one, "the test couch," that I fully made before making all 7 others at one time.

Anytime I see something crafted from wood I literally stop and study it's components and other characteristics. Like you Matt, I see I can make (usually better!) and usually try if it's something I can attempt economically. I enjoy seeing budget builds turn into true craftman creations using most any type of wood. Thanks for sharing how I think...like you. 😎👌
  • @shellylemons
It’s amazing how you can only pay 10% of what they are charging for the same and it looks so much better.
  • Awesome video, clear step by step operation. Just like Bob Ross you make it look easy and like I can do that myself, even with happy little mistakes. My wife is always looking or buying the most uncomfortable out door furniture. I'm definitely building these. I built the out door arbor nearly 2+ years ago for my daughter and she loves it and it still looks as good as the day it was built. Thanks.
  • @Matthew Peech I was told to tighten your drill and loosen it up on click and it'll lock in the chuck and keep your drill bit from coming out. They say it works on most drills.
  • Building mine out of locally milled Cedar full dimension for even cheaper. A friend is a seamstress who offered to do the labor on the cushions for a chair.😮 Love your channel, thanks Matt!
  • @jmoe6402
👍🏽 I too built my patio furniture because two main reasons, one is as the ridiculous prices and the other was most of them are made low quality slapped together in a factory as fast as they can go and fall apart after a few years of use. Besides I had fun doing it!😁
  • This the only Chanel that I have subscribed to. And I watch a lot of wood working videos. Keep up the good work.
  • Glad to see im not the only who has the bit randomly fall out of the chuck on the dewalt cordless
  • This looks like a great project. Thank you for showing us this build!
  • Great job and design thx for sharing Keep building and creating amazing projects
