Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island with a long, complex history. It's been a US controlled territory for the last 150 years and its residents are American citizens, and before that it was under Spanish colonial rule for 400 years. But Puerto Rico has its own rich culture and identity which reflect the different people and cultural influences that form part of the island's history. In this episode I try the local food, listen to Puerto Rico's native musical genres, visit its beautiful beaches the El Yunque tropical rainforest, and make friends with the locals, in order to understand the culture better.

I'm Mediterranean myself and we also spend a lot of time outside at the beach enjoying our food, having friends and family around - just celebrating life like the people do here in this video...And then some survey tries to convince me that the happiest people and best life is lived in Norway/Finland, Sweden, or somewhere similar..All I can say is, that it is all relative, in my opinion, this is a life well-lived 🌻

I've spent 8 months working in Puerto Rico, after Hurricane Maria. I knew at that time, I would live there one day. Hopefully, this year is my year. Yes, Puerto Rico is America. In fact, if you are born in Puerto Rico you get automatic American citizenchip. However, Puerto Rico has done a great job keeping its Hispanic heritage and language. I'm Dominican, but I do love my PR people.

I have visited a few times. It's beautiful as are the people. Not quite the same as within the US mainland because PR maintains the beauty and history of their culture. I hope it can remain untainted.. enough damage was done 150years ago.
