Swifties rejoice! Taylor is back and better than ever.

Taylor Swift has been in the center of the music industry for the better part of a decade at this point, but her success on tour this year practically cements her position as one of the most (if not the absolute most) popular entertainer in the country and possibly the world.

And if she came to your city, you couldn't miss it. Her tour was responsible for contributing millions dollars to local economies, not to mention the $55 million in bonuses that she gifted to her tour crew.

How does a tour this massive operate?

How much does it cost to put on the biggest tour of all time?

Greyson and Whitney answer those questions and explore the massive success and insane logistics of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in this week's episode of Shifting Gears!

  • For those curious, we WILL be doing a part 2 explaining the logistics of the international leg of her tour!! If there's any specific information you'd like us to cover in that episode, reply to this comment and let us know!

I want to give another shout out to Taylor's road crew. We saw her in Philly. After the show our car didn't start. 3 hours after the concert ended we were still stuck in the parking lot. 3 of her road crew members (truck drivers) were leaving the stadium area and saw us. They worked on our car and Stayed with us for 45 minutes until it was running again. They shared stories of their time working for Taylor and driving for other performers. Thanks again to those 3 drivers.

She also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to a food bank in each city she visited.

I’m a 72 year old gentleman that has seen Elvis early in his career when young girls freaked out every time he was in public. I experienced the Beatles’s invasion of America and saw them on the Ed Sullivan show… their very first appearance in America. I saw every act in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s up until today. There’s never been an act that could completely rock Los Angeles, California for a solid week! All of the hotels were full at twice their normal prices. It was difficult to get Uber/Lyft drivers and there was surge pricing all week. Traffic in all of Los Angeles was gridlocked for days. There 70,000 people in SoFi Stadium for 6 straight nights AND there were 10,000 people standing in the parking lot listening to the concert… there no roof on SoFi Stadium so you hear it loud and clear. Taylor Swift is the most popular act I’ve witness in my 72 years on planet Earth!!!

She didn’t use Dynamic Pricing. They were $50-$450 non-VIP packages. VIP packages were about was at most $900. What drove the prices even higher were the fees on top of fees. Then the secondary market happened. I got my VIP ticket at face value for $600. All it included was a VIP care package and a seat right behind the tent where her parents watched the show from. Absolutely no regrets.

A lot of people are hating on her for being white (drawing comparisons to Beyoncé), for being a woman, for being too feminine, for her dating history, and for songs about exes. Wake up, people! Taylor is a businessperson who is also showing us that it is possible to be a businessperson with a heart. It IS possible for corporations to take care of their employees, be generous, and still earn ENOUGH. The corporations just don't want to; they're just being greedy. EDIT: I forgot to mention that she not only delivers excellent products to her customers but also treats them very well :)
  • Taylor is literally curing cities of the aftermath from the pandemic. She’s a legend!

It turns out that going to see "The Eras Toudr" movie was the deal of the decade for me. I had no idea that I would become a Swiftie. It happened about half way through the show. The show and her performance, everything about it, is just wonderful...
  • @eshanidhir5831
She has not used any dynamic pricing since the start of the tour. Tickets at face value were decently priced. The scalpers are the ones selling her tickets for thousands of dollars.
  • @lauramusic2010
I paid $499 for front row in Minneapolis. I received a code and paid the price Taylor charged. I was fortunate to get through the original sale. I paid $450 for row 2 in Nashville. This was before Ticketmaster fees.
  • @turkrene
Speaking from my experience of buying a ticket for the Vienna concert, I got the floor seats in 10 minutes for 100 euros. I cannot resell the tickets, because I can only sell it through the system for the price, for which I bought it. And I won't have an access to the ticket, until the show, which prevents me from reselling it for way higher price. I don't know why the US leg didn't have the same system.
  • @user-yd1mq5yk9w
She didn't have dynamic pricing on- tickets started from $49 to $499 (non-VIP)- it would have been even higher due to demand (I saw on Tampa dates). Bots & scalpers resold for profit. One guy sold his for $14K (he said for college). Some artists have set some tickets aside for reseller market though at their request. TM also has reseller program.
  • I am impressed with her political activism and the fact that she became a billionaire the old fashioned way by working for it.
  • @marypoor9574
Speaking as someone who's worked for a big contracting company before... those bonuses are potentially life changing money. Good on her, and makes me even more grateful to have gotten two tickets in the verified fan presale for Indy 24 - gonna take my super Swiftie youngest daughter. Thank you, Taylor!

Hi! Im a lighting designer who works these kind of large scale events. I also went to and worked The Eras Tour when it came to Philly. In her previous tours (Rep & 1989), she toured with TWO stages, mostly just the steel and everything needed for the stage, with some lighting and video. The performance dates were much closer so logistically it made sense for a crew to be pre building the stage while she was performing that night in another city. Day of show or day before we call that "production load in" where the major bells and whistles show up for load in. Since the Eras tour was only on weekends (ignore LA), she only needed to tour with one package. And a show of this size, money wise, it only made sense if she did multiple days in the same city. We started building her stage on Tuesday, with the production loading in on Thursday. The lighting people need the overnight before the show to set the moving lights since each stadium is different. I loved this video! My father was a truck driver for Landstar for 15 years, so it was nice to see your point of view.

when taylor came to pittsburgh, she made a HUGE donation to our local food bank :)
  • @hOtneO
When you see how much work goes into putting everything together on time, you kinda of feel the weight of pressure on the artist who can't afford to be sick. There was some artists that just had to cancel like The Weeknd cut the show early because he was sick, Lady Gaga couldn't finish her tour and the ripple effect of lost money to every pocket and the fruatration of dancers who took time to learn the moves. When I heard Taylor was doing 6 nights in a row in L.A. that was some beast mode professionalism. I went to Britney Spears Las Vegas residency and her show was all the hits of her career and Taylor had the same tour but longer and different cities.
  • while she's performing in one city, one crew is out in another city preparing/setting up for when she comes there. it's like magic
  • @dutchbaby2023
Other than Shake it Off, I couldn't have named a single TS song. I work in backstage production as a side gig, and it was her generosity to her drivers that made me sit up and start paying attention. The numbers this tour is putting up have never been seen before. It is unreal. Good for her!
  • @eric_in_florida
I can totally see her just doing a residency type of thing at some point. Her fans WILL come to her, rather than driving all this gear all over the country (well, world). One thing is for sure, she makes the rules!
