Private garage tour of Gordon Murray's new Car Cave. Following on from his resto-mod Ford Escort Mk1, Jonny takes a whistle stop tour of Gordon Murray's new basement Car Cave. Each of the 35-odd race and road cars are there for a specific reason, with many following Gordon's preferred design principles of being small, simple and lightweight.

Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.

From the rivetted Mini-based kit car to McLaren SLR, listening to Gordon wax lyrical about the colourful machines in his dehumidified depths of GMA is nothing but pure car fanaticism.

Gordon always looks bored with people asking him questions when I have watched other interviews but with Johnny he looked engaged and like he was enjoying himself. That was a joy.
  • @JohnHonda101
You're getting the guests you deserve Jonny, well done mate.
  • @davidf2281
It slowly dawned on me while watching this, and hearing Gordon mention the occasional year and his age at the time, that the man is in his mid seventies. He seems twenty years younger. Probably even more jealous of that than I am of his car collection.

Gordon's mid 70s, head of a multi million business, yet he always has time to talk to people. So much knowledge and history. Old school gent

I absolutely love that this epic collection was mostly founded by the sale of a single McLaren F1. Bonkers.
  • @Tam_Mullen93
The admiration in Jonnys face when Gordon is speaking is incredible, proper meet your hero moment.
  • @DaCoder
Wish we had more people like Murray in the automotive industry. Everything is so big and heavy now. 😓👏

Utterly fabulous interview, Johnny. If anyone at GMA is reading this, please extend my thanks for agreeing to give his time for this.
  • Mr Murray is a walking encyclopaedia. I don’t think i could ever get tired of listening to him. Although very relaxed, you can hear his passion come through in everything he talks about. You are an extremely lucky man Jonny. Well, not lucky. You’ve worked extremely hard to get where you are, and I am dead chuffed for you. Very well deserved. Keep it going sir, you’re doing all of us very proud!

What a down to earth chap Gordon is,100% car 100% on the tools. He's not scared to drive his cars and has a passionate and different love for every car, what a star.
  • @solsol1624
Never knew he is such a hard core enthusiast. Still rides bikes, been to over 30TTs, drives racing cars on the road without seats. Respect.
  • @LD-bv1pm
One of the most influential and important automotive engineers of last 2-3 generations showing respect for, and giving back to guys like Jonny and the Escort resto-team. Just brilliant to see.
  • I love and admire how geniuses of our automotive world casually roll off and recall facts, figures, stats and stories with such casual authority, sincerity and passion. Another fantastic episode Jonny 👍
  • It is Gordon's amazing laidback enthusiasm and passion for lightweight engineering from a bygone era, that really projects something special to all us fans of innovative vehicles like this. Everyone should aspire to keep that type of detailed enthusiasm, even when they are in the mid seventies, because he shows how to stay young. Absolute passionate legend right there. Thank you Jonny for a fantabulous insight into Mr Murray's car cave.
  • Fabulous collection, he really is a proper dyed-in-the-wool petrolhead. And well navigated/interviewed/edited Jonny as ever!
  • @JohnWrightJnr

Wow. You've absolutely knocked it out the park with this one. Leaving TV to start YouTube must have been a massive gamble for you, but you're smashing it. You should be really proud. GM on the channel 😎
