J. Krishnamurti - Ojai 1983 - Conversation with Jonas Salk - What makes us change?

Summary:

If one has children, will they repeat the same old pattern or will there be a fundamental change in their whole consciousness?

What makes us learn, change?

Is time an enemy or a help?

You are responsible as a human being for the rest of humanity.

Consciousness is not mine, it is the human mind. We are humanity.

The mind that is trained to resolve problems will always find problems. If the brain is not trained to solve problems, it can face problems but is essentially free.

Why should I psychologically record anything?

Identification is a form of self-centred activity.

Compassion cannot be put together by thought.

The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'

We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.

Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at [email protected]

    K. at 88 years of age here is still extremely sharp mentally. In fact, he remained sharp till his death 3 years later. He freed himself from the inner conflict which excelerates senility, freed himself many decades earlier. No sign of senility even in his last public speech.
  • Oh my gosh I’ve been listening to this gentleman for over 10 years and I’ve been in recovery for alcohol addiction for longer and there’s always this message of I couldn’t get better till I hit my bottom or they will say well you’re not ready you haven’t suffered enough I am so grateful that I’ve let go of every belief system and stop joining organizations and institutions

I’m not part of mankind ..I’m mankind ..seems to be most important outcome of this talk.

14:35 Dr. Salk misses the main point here, that a group identifying itself as "the exceptions" or the "more evolved" creates another tribal split from mankind and further perpetuates division. Krishnamurti was right to retort that this is an age old excuse of the politician and priest. Krishnamurti clarifies this even more explicitly at 52:59 and his reply to 58:40. Overall, it seems Salk "agreed" throughout the entire discussion to avoid introspection about his clear sense of entitlement as one of an "exceptional, evolved" class.
