Restoring Our 100 Year Old Farmhouse: DIY Renovation, Slowly, But Surely!

Published 2024-07-21
Our bedroom gets a rejig after all of the modern blue paint is removed, exposing the lime whitewash the farmhouse needs to prevent damp issues in the stone walls.
The giant root from the Ash tree beats Ben (again) but it must be removed for the vital repairs to the stone wall the root is pushing against.
The land is overgrown but we have fruits!
Being complete beginners at farmhouse renovation, really needing a "homesteading for beginners" guide and now starting amateur archaeology, we are taking it slowly, enjoying everything we do no matter how hard it is, to one day realise our dream of running a fully functioning homestead from our once derelict Irish Farmhouse.

I think Dawn is doing a super job of the pointing, Iām just as excited to see those cottages restored as much as the actual house.
-
The bedroom wall looks so warm and cosy now they have the soft blue and not cold blue. Well deserved increase in subscribers too š
-
I believe that wall is going to be the best it's been in a long while. Puts a big smile on my face watching you tirelessly place each stone and the mortar to keep it for many, many years š Superb Dawn š

Setting a goal and building your dreamā¦Itās just lovely what you both are doing it takes patience, love and compassion.. Donāt forget some time out for yourselves too .
-
Now is a good time to cut back the dead branches to send the energy to the rest of the tree. I see lots of apple pies in your future, lol

That root will not beat you! I bet the stone Dawn needs is in that root. Blossom watch definitely produced a lot of fruit. Now, I want to thank you for the follow on Twitch! It was lovely to see your name there. Have a wonderful week, and I pray the rain lets up enough to get the mower out.

Wow, Dawn and Ben! So much to comment on! The pointing is going great, love that you have the garden going and will soon have apples, tomatoes and squash, the bedroom looks lovely and cozy and that stump is just stumping! ššš. I donāt blame you at all for going in, Ben! Have a great week and weāll see you next time. Bye bye!!

You guys are making my little projects around the house seem a lot easier! I get motivated when I see you tackling these huge jobs a little bit at a time.

I just want to say that you two are the loveliest of people, whatever work you get up to itās your personalities that win me over! Thought you could do with volunteers to help with some jobs in exchange for food? ā¤

Those stones that Dawn is looking for.. They are in the stump (teasing). The tree's are doing amazing and so is the ground cover lol. I'm so glad you are able to have company over and enjoy taking some time to yourselves. I love the original pink colour wash in the bedroom and the way you have it set up, one bite at a time it is all coming together. :face-red-heart-shape: Love those smiles!!
-
Thank you for taking me along. You are doing splendid work. My, how things are growing and producing this year. I wish you the best on "the rock." You are getting there, slowly and surely.
-
Hi Ben the easiest way to get rid of that stump is a controlled burn drill a few holes and soak with petrol mixed with oil or fairy liquid to make it sticky, keep the burn under control, this will decrease the density of the stump and it will break apart easily.
-
I'm voting a controlled burn on that stubborn root! Progress is progress!
-
Ben I must agree with you sir, the bed in the corner facing you as you open the door has that immediate WOW! factor (plus you can hide stuff behind it too) One step closer folks little by little. Stay safe, and we'll see you in the next week

Loving how cosy your room is looking now. I really love the bed in the corner. That root is an absolute bear, I hope it isnt following into your dreams and giving you nightmares too. Good to see that you have more followers, you certainly deserve them
