My son talked me into playing this game. 2D games were never really my thing either. But Hollow Knight was a great game & it was a wonderful way to bond with my 13 yr old. I hope you enjoy it!

1:35 Notepad and metroidvanias is a match made in heaven! 6:05 Team Cherry is basically 3 dudes, making masterpieces in their basement. 8:56 I've noticed your confusion in the Subnautica playthrough, so I want to share with you a little trick. In order to remember, which one is which, just take T in stalactite, it looks like it faces below from the roof, that's a stalacTite. Stalagmite is kinda awkward but it's basically (M) two spikes on the floor, facing the roof.

I can tell I'm going to enjoy a let's play when the player takes the time right away to give initial thoughts based on their background knowledge and the opening screen. It means they're approaching the game thoughtfully, analytically, and with a willingness to get on board. You haven't even hit New Game and I'm already glad I found this!
