China's first astronaut gets a haunting experience as he hears an eerie knocking on the outside of his spaceship's door. There are no faults with his craft, so is he imagining it, or is there someone, or something, on the outside knocking to get in?

The HUGE missing piece to the story is, did he ever knock back to see if he would get a response?
  • @garyhagen221
It definitely wasn't an Amazon delivery driver. They only knock once and then leave it on the step.

The only thing scarier than being alone in space on a solo mission is not being alone in space on a solo mission.
  • I can’t even stay alone in my own house ( only at night). Just couldn’t believe how could someone go to space by themselves.

If that was the aliens, I am pleased to hear that they were so polite. After all, they could have just barged in without knocking.

A friend served on a small submarine. He once told me, that the most frightening thing on a sub are sudden loud sounds whose origin you can’t pinpoint, because it might indicate an impending hull failure. I imagine it is like that in space too.

It would be trivial for the people in charge to add a small knocking mechanism to start and stop at specific intervals. This could easily have been a psychological test to see if the subject would faithfully report it, or hide it. Just the fact that he was traveling at 17,000 miles per hour in space makes it unlikely that it would be a second craft trying to communicate without being observed by ground or support personnel.

That was hell to be on your own with that knocking sound. I would not look out of the window. Really scary stuff.
  • There's no way he's crazy. He's too well trained. He just needs answers. He has an intelligent mind just wants answers.

I can’t even imagine how nerve wracking it must be to be aboard a rocket, blasting off to space. Just imagine the adrenaline rush. Anything could go wrong. I give a lot of credit to any person brave enough to do so. And to go ALONE?!? crazy!

It's crazy how all these stories are never filmed on such major project bit yet comes to document it
  • That's creepy but I really want to say that he's so brave to keep it himself at first.

Requires a lot of courage to go through such experience. Hats off to him 👍

"Sir, we've been trying to contact you about your car's extended warranty!"
  • The mere fact that the knocking continued, tells you that it was a mechanical fault, defect or the expansion and contraction of the outer body of the craft.

Material works. The change of heat can make repetitious knocking noises. On earth, it can be within a house, when you hear someone walking with even steps around. As a former nightwatchman, I know. It can sometimes be a frightful experience.

I admire all astronauts of all nationalities. It takes true bravery to do what they do. As an astronaut you must stay cool, calm, and collected no matter what situation arises. You must fall back and depend upon your training in situations like this one.

The scariest thing is.. It's not even who or what is knocking. It's more like a something. He's not alone, something is trying give Yang signal. Or so i thought..
  • So Yang hears a knocking noise, which as demonstrated in the presentation is consistent and rhythmic. He eventually discovers other astronauts hear the same noise. It is generated when the same conditions are created, that is, flight into space and all the issues that come with that. The fact that it is repeatable and consistent across space craft means it is a mechanical issue and they had better find it before it causes a disaster. Also the Chinese space administration had better encourage detailed reporting of unusual events because it does not sound like the engineers who build the thing were made aware of the issue. In science, communications is vital.
